I can certainly appreciate and understand how people feel a need to blame someone for the loss, but let's grow up. No more "bagging" on this team-the players or the coaches. It gets old real quick.

If you want to blame someone, blame yourself for doubting the team. Blame the guy that moved over two inches from where he sat during the USC goalline stand. Blame the dude who forgot to wear his leprechaun undies, or the wife who thought it was okay to bake during the game and not cheer in the exact same spot she did during the Pitt game.

Blame anyone, but Please - no more blaming the folks on the team-they took us for a wonderful ride-they are building something special for the long term, and they've given much more to the team than we ever will or have.

I agree there is no blame. The coaches, players, and fans all got dropped in a meat grinder last night, and NOTHING could have prevented it. Win like a man, lose like a man.

I blame Bama. That was dominant football. I enjoyed this season and thank the Irish players and coaches for their effort and hard work.

I kept hearing fans last night blaming refs, play calling, etc. That got thrown out the window about 10 minutes into the game. We were outmatched and outmuscled, plain and simple. I would have given anything to go into the locker room after the game and tell everyone how proud of them I am.

There's no blame other than we didn't know how to get hit in the mouth.

That's all.

I mean, honestly, there isnt much to blame. They lost as a team to a dominant squad.

I hate saying this but the only possible blame I will throw is the refs cost us a bit of potential momentum in the beginning which could have settled us down. Would the result have been the same? Probably, but 2 bad, annoying calls.

This was my first 2012 game that I watched outside of California. And since I'm now living in Texas I traded my PBR for Lone Star. I'm sorry, fellas... next year I'll be better.

We simply got our butts handed to us by the best team in the country. The players and coaches need to take it as a learning experience. They should expect to be back in the NCG with a much different result. Go Irish!

I blame myself. I wore my gray ND t-shirt instead of my green ND t-shirt. I'm sorry I let you all down.

I learned over the past few years that calls like this DO make a big difference. Momentum and point swings are huge in college football.

I still think it would have been something like 21-35, though!

Sorry, but when you take a crap that bad on national tv in the biggest game in modern Irish history, there is going to be blame going around. And the reason that we're on these boards is to not only celebrate all the great things tthat the Irish do....but disect the bad stuff and figure out why it happened.

It doesnt mean that people don't see the big picture, or love the team....it's a chatboard. Figuring out what's wrong with your team, and on occasion, blowing off some steam, comes with the territory. Doesn't mean we have to be rude about it....but if a guy looks bad, I have no problem with someone mentioning it.

I appreciate what you're trying to say here, but I don't think it's realistic. What you said is something that Coach Kelly is telling his players.

And I blame the team for not being ready for that game.

Bama outcoached and outplayed us in every facet of the game.

It is what it is.

Lets win it all next year!

Yea I this in the post game thread. I love BK, I think he is the right coach for ND.

BUT the ND staff got out freaking coached both in game and especially in game preparation!

Yep. I'm not saying BK is a bad coach or any of the other coaches are...but LAST NIGHT they got schooled.

We'll learn and come back better.

I have to agree with this. Giving everyone a participation ribbon won't get us a national championship. What we need to do is find our mistakes and learn from them. With that being said pointing out problem should be done respectfully and followed by a way to solve them or a question on how we solve it. Just my $.02

Other than deferring to the second half, and maybe the fade route on 3 and 2 early in the game, I don't feel we were outcoached.

There were plays to be made (lots of would-be tackles for loss) that just weren't by the players.

That's a good team with better players over there. We'll get them next time.

We were out coached. I did like that Kelly avoided screeming at Golsen during the game. I thought some of that aggressiveness Kelly talked about needed to be implement in the defensive play calling.

The big issues where not on game day. It was on the preparation. When you tackle much worse than you have all season it points to something wrong with your preparation. Bama players also said how simple it was to get the ND defense into a look they wanted by certain shifts and formations. It was bad game planning and preparation the mouth leading up to the game.

Again I mention I have full faith in this staff. They just were not very good this game.

But if it's nobody's fault then why in about every players thread are there multiple people bitching about what that player didn't do, how they were outmatched, didn't show up,.....the list goes on.

We got beat by a superior team. Quit bitching. It was one game, yes THE game, but one game. A player or team hasn't played good all year, had the best D, and went 12-0 because really they suck and weren't any good to begin with. One player playing different wasn't gonna win us the game. I was disappointed in our performance. We got beat by a better team.

I can concede in the preparation part, clearly something was missing, but during the game, I thought the coaches (Diaco in particular) put them in position to make plays. The players just didn't make them. Alabama had a lot to do with that.

I agree with this. That's how you improve: figure out what went wrong and who is responsible/accountable. I also agree that maybe "blame" isn't the issue, but there is a need to carefully assess performance. Only an @sshat would trash Kelly or Diaco or anyone after a season such as this, but it doesn't mean one or another of the responsible people didn't fail, unless you are prepared to say that Bama, on quality alone, is four TDs or more better than ND. I am not so inclined. To me, and Kelly said this, they've got to review why they missed so many tackles and get physically stronger, but I think they also need to review the lack of pressure, the failure to contain, and some of the playcalling. I am, however, very proud that, unlike some Weis teams, these guys never quit -- they played hard throughout.
