So, we actually made it! I can't believe it..I am so blown away, I want to laugh and cry at the same time!
Being at the SC game this past weekend was incredible (was just enjoying the atmosphere but didn't get to see the game in the stadium, but just from my hotel room). I actually got to meet some of the players and take pictures with them. Such elation and pure joy from the guys, it was incredible.
Now, I need to figure out how to make it to the BCS bowl in Miami. I have a big family, 8 total and gotta find real cheap accommodations to be able to afford it.

I see I can fly Spirit Airlines for only $292 a ticket, round trip, which is reasonable. Now, I need a place to stay and a rental car, or maybe considering to rent an RV and stay in a campground there. And then, tickets :0 so unrealistic I know, but I've got to try right?!
Anyways, thought this could be a thread to share info about deals and stuff. Maybe team up for like a rental car, or if any ND fan lives in the area and would be willing to help us out with local deals or transportation.
Thanks so much!
Cheers and GO IRISH!

Trip to Miami for BCS

Trip to Miami for BCS

Great idea for a Forum -- and disappointed not more responses yet!! I am trying to go down myself...the biggest problem is the ticket price. $1500 (for bad seats) is pretty daunting. I'm hoping that better tickets might actually be sold by scalpers on day-of-game for much less (my cousins did that for the Giants 2007 SuperBowl in AZ...but that was in AZ). I also wonder whether, worst-case, there would be some good ND-friendly bars where the game watch atmosphere would be once-in-a-lifetime (well, not just once, I hope!)

Are you really going to walk around that neighborhood with a $1000 bucks in your pocket?

This isn't a campus venue.

Research i did was tickets were starting at 1500 for nose bleeds up to 4k for good seats. "Discussions" with my wife on this is underway....lets see if we have 12k + travel + hotel money laying around.

its not that bad of a place at the stadium, your closed off from most of the surrounding neighborhood. this isn't the old orange bowl where you're parking in someones front lawn for $20.

i've been to many dolphin games and picked up a ticket last minute from outside the stadium. it actually has a great tailgate scene there.

I may have to do get down there on the day of and try and get tix if I can't get them otherwise.

My plan is to head down to Miami the morning of and tailgate with any ND fans that'll have me and just check out all the bowl activities. Towards game time try and find a cheaper ticket, if I can't I'll find a good Irish bar in the area.

Anyone know of or planning to find a bar where I could watch the game with some Irish fans?

Scalping tickets in Miami

Scalping tickets in Miami

It's Miami, man --- I'm from NY, and I've scalped tickets in the Bronx and Flushing (and before Giuliani cleaned up the city, not just after)...I'm not too worried....but I appreciate the concern! Maybe I'll hide the $ in a secure location, ha. The whole point of scalping is to save some scratch....I could afford $2k for a ticket, but out of general principle, I don't know if I could bring myself to shell it out. Don't forget, the $1500 tix are crappy, too! :(

That's my plan too - great minds think alike. If I could get in for like $500 or so, I would....I've been to ND alum game watches (I'm a subway alumni, not an actual Domer) in NYC, and it was as good (perhaps better) than being at the game in person! (I went out to South Bend once, and it was awesome, but let's face it -- watching on TV tends to be better unless you're sitting b/w the 40s.

I think you have a few options. I would look for a hotel outside of Miami like in Ft. Laud. I would imagine rates would be less. Your idea of an RV is pretty good. Another is to look for a house to rent for the week. I've done this before and the rates are decent if you take the time to shop.

Yeah, I probably am sitting at about $500-700 max that I can spend on a ticket (College budget). Probably wouldn't be making the trip if it wasn't so close to me, but since it is I figure I might as well try.

Well just booked the flight and the hotel. I'll be staying in the Tropicana Motel near the Ft. Lauderdale airport. If anyone books a motel near the area and has a car or anything a ride to the game will help out a lot. Anyone just PM me if you're able to.

Now if there was someway I could get a ticket into the game that would be amazing.

Heard today that ND might be renting a convention center type of facility and hold a huge gamewatch there, charging $5 per person to go. There would be food there and a cash bar. Large screens and fans who can't afford $1500 for a ticket!

I booked a hotel 20 minutes from the stadium after the Wake game (4 rooms for family and friends that are all going) for $350 each room for two nights, room has multiple bedrooms and pull out couch, pretty good deal. I live outside of Orlando so on Sunday I'll be going the the airport to rent car(s) and pick up roommates who are coming in then driving down to Miami to catch the Pep Rally sunday evening. Then going out Sunday with the friends (including jimmymac) and tailgating Monday at the stadium lot (have two parking passes already) Hopefully will be getting tickets through the student or parent lottery, fingers crossed!

Are you guys going to have anything set up that indicates it's an Irish Envy tailgate? I'm a member of a Vikings forum similar to this and I know they would have tailgates and they would have banners and stuff with the website name. Because I'm going to be down there and I don't know a soul so if I could tailgate with some of you guys it'd be cool.

Oh and that convention center idea would be great I'd definitely do that if it happens. Also what time would the pep rally be Sunday evening and would it cost money to get in the door?
