Can't really blame Barkley for staying at USC one more year. I wouldn't want to take a pay cut either

Happy about his decision to stay. I want another shot for ND to set this kid's ego back, even if it's just a little. No excuses for next year.

I know man this guy deserves a good beating... I was watching him talk about staying and had such a cocky attitude..

Little snippet from the full text of the presser:

After discussing it with my parents, I thought I had come to a decision. Then I talked to Lane Kiffin and he offered me any type of oral "support" possible if I come back. The school agreed to paid the cost of insurance that I will require in the event I get injured. I have unfinished business and, after meeting with our wealthiest booster, I couldn't forgo the opportunity to become the career earnings leader at USC, surpassing Reggie Bush, by taking his $500,000 offer. Therefore, I will return to USC next year.

Let him come back. I would rather have a shot at them with him at the helm because if he was gone and they lost, all you would hear is about how they were breaking in a new qb. I would love to get some revenge for this year too. Here's hoping to barkley spending a lot of time on the ground with Lynch on top of him.

After all the problems they had for two yrs it's crazy they still have so much speed..

Give it 2-3 years for the lost scholarships to sink in.

What is going to be our excuse when they dismantle us and leave nothing but bone dust?

I'd love to have a shot at taking them out. Since beating them means they will probably be out of the NC game. Unfortunately NCAA rules prohibit playing 15 players on either side of the ball.

Bro, you have no idea what kind of person Barkley is. Cocky is the last thing you would call him. The last night he was in the hood with his family serving food at a homeless shelter. He is a very humble young man and I would have loved to see him here at ND. Kids who spend their vacations doing charity work in Nigeria are alright in my book, despite him playing for the Trojans.

I know the lines get easily crossed between fantasy and reality, but developing villainy in the characters that comprise your opponent is part of the fun of American football. Barkley has schooled our team, and to see him defeated on the field would bring joy to most ND hearts.

It still does not deter from the fact that calling him cocky is impetuous to see the least. If Barkley is cocky, God forbid what adjectives can be used to describe Aaron Lynch. Sure we want to beat him, but I see nothing but class from this kid.

I think you may be overdramatizing the word cocky. I want a team full of "cocky" football players. I don't think that being overtly confident in your abilities precludes someone from still being able to do good works.

Perhaps matter of opinion, I just don't necessarily connotate that word as bad.

His announcement reminded me about why I hate those Condoms so much. I hope Lynch, Tuitt, and Teo make him regret his decision.

Anyone who thinks we stand a chance against USC next year is kidding themselves.

I disagree. Our Defense will be better as we become more athletic. Jalen Brown is called a
"stud" by MF3 and Bennett Jackson is earning praises from coaches. These players are an upgrade athletiically and physically from Gray and Blanton. Our Offense will get better by subtraction. Michael Floyd was my favorite Wide Reciever ever but often times we just looked for him. I believe that Riddick and Jones were underutilized this year and you should see next year, whomever the quarterback is, have a better distribution and turnover ratio_Our negatives are obviously Gray and Smith leaving. I am really worried about our O-line losing Robinson who was the leader at Offensive Guard. Overall, we should not be crying that Barkley is back but rather embracing it as we might beat this smug doushebag in the Coliseum.

While you may be correct and some folks will agree with you, I will withhold judgment until I see the 2012 team play a few games, as we saw this season, pre-season expectation can be a lot higher than on the field reality.

^ At the very least we play them in late November so we will know if our secondary is a strength by then.

I'm happy he stayed..

Oh stop..

I actually understand his pessimism. However, of course we stand a chance. Upsets happen all the time. USC, even with Leinart and Bush and White and all those superstars, still lost games they shouldn't have. Oregon lost to USC this year when everyone thought they'd kill them. We could all sit here and cite hundreds of upsets. It could happen.

But our task just got monumentally harder. Anyone who doesn't admit that is most definitely kidding themselves (but I think everyone admits that)...

Landry Jones is a fine college quarterback, but a very overrated pro prospect.

The good thing is that Oklahoma always has a game where they fall flat on their face and lose to an inferior opponent.
