We may be stuck with Charlie Weis for one more (probably) inept season...but at least we aren't Auburn! After showing Tuberville the door, Auburn masterfully searched for his replacement. They proudly hired...Gene Chizik? Niiice. Way to go Tigers. Chizik not only was one of the worst head coaches in the Big XII (which is the second hardest conference in the FBS), they hired a man who was 5-19 in two seasons at Iowa State, including a 10 game losing skid to conclude this season. Nothing says confidence and possible championships like taking a crappy Big XII team, nosediving it, then stepping up in competition to the FBS's hardest conference! I was pretty unhappy about the Irish keeping Weis for another year, but at least I'm not an Auburn fan. I think if I was, I'd feel like a kid who bought a box of cereal for the cool toy at the bottom only to find there isn't anything in it but the bottom of the box.

Did you hear Kirk Herbstreit's reply to the hiring. I'm a huge Herbstreit guy, so his take floored me. In case you missed it, he admittted that he knows Chizik very well, and then went on to say that he LOVED the hire, and that Chizik would do an amazing job and that Auburn would love him. I was shocked. My perception was that he is very good friends with the guy and had his buddy's back. It was almost Mark May-ish. 5-19 and it was a great hire? I mean, he may well turn out to be a great coach who was just stuck in a bad situation at Iowa St (and he was a great d-coordinator for Auburn), but Auburn dropped the ball here big-time IMO. There were better candidates...

i can't defend his head coaching work at iowa state, that was just awful, but he was the DC at Auburn a few years back. i believe he was DC there from '02 til '04 and those were some fearsome defenses. i think they should've hired turner gill (but don't believe there was a racial component like barkley), however, this is a common routine for schools when there are no big names out there. they go for an assistant that was around during the good times. it makes some sense, but not enough to be proud of AU's AD.

Tuberville resigned. They wouldn't fire Tuberville to hire Chizik.

I do find it surprising that they hired another defensive guy after struggling on offense for the past few seasons.

It doesn't make much sense, but maybe Auburn seen something we haven't. Turner Gill would have done well there I think, Syracuse made a mistake on passing on Gill also.

this is more than ok for me, this way hopefully... hopefully (not that i hope charlie sucks a butt again next year, i hope he turns things around in dramatic fashion) but anyway hopefully... everyone else will pass on gill and he will be available next november if charlie does indeed suck a fat one again next year.

So now Charles Barkley is adamant on ESPN saying that Chizik was hired over Gill (Buffalo) because of race.

friggen lol

Those were his words.

What bothers me is that Gill is ALREADY a head coach and just had a great season. How about letting him stay put and continue success? Who says green is greener anywhere else?

Who knows...

sadly, i wouldn't be surprised if the race of Gill's wife had something to do with it.
I just read onynybrother's post in Leprechaun lounge "Black Prez yes. Black coach at Auburn Hell No!!!!!!!!"

It has to be more than that. But I don't and have never lived in the south.

But what is wrong with Gill sticking around in Buffalo and creating a lasting dynasty?

Ahhh heellll. Gonna pop me open a cold one. (Just got off work....Headed back after I pass out and crawl back up...Mommy?)

If Buffalo was a BCS program, that'd be one thing. But they're a mid-major, and these coaches (almost) always leave the mid-majors as soon as a school in a BCS conference comes calling.

There is something that has not come out yet. That just seems like such a bad hire on the surface. I had rather have Turner Gill than Chiznik. I had rather have Tuberville than either one of them. It just dont make any sense to me. Who has Auburn done any better with than Tuberville? REALLY. Dye? Bowden? They had good years but they dont really shine any brighter than the last ten years do they?

Cuse also should have went after Locksley(sp?) from the Illini. With his Washington D.C. roots; I think he would have had some success recruiting out there. Now he is at Nevada which surprised me.

And as it were, Gill got an extension and a hefty raise. He has been there three years, has a 15-22 record and has done a great job. Now has lots of money, security (said loosely) until 2013 and has taken care of his family. What else could anyone ask for???

Oh, excuse me Sir Charles, how about an extra 15million a year, head coach of Alabama and USC at the same time and all the recruits you want. What an arsehole.

Yep, this is just what all once proud programs should tell themselves! Knute would be rolling over in his grave to see the state of ND football and comparing themselves to Auburn.

Just couldnt bring yourself to say, I wish we were the Trojans, could yah!

I am wearing a trojan on my cock right now.

Just flew around the world. Your wife is humping her boss, and your kids are, well, ugly.

(And look like the mailman...)

Merry Christmas fucker.
