Kelly made an example of Smith to let everyone know its his team and the best will play (in HIS mind the best). Brian Smith answered the call of team and humility and will know see the benefit. His choice of a 40 yr decision was the best thing he has ever done and I hope he hits a few people into next Tues before he leaves Notre Dame. What Kelly did was good coaching.

I think this speaks for a lot of the players though they obviously won't come out and say. Their just aren't/weren't on the same page a what Kelly wants from him.
Weis just let things go and let them do whatever/be whoever they wanted. Totally entitlment.
You can see the exasperation in Kelly sometimes, hes so frustrated that things just aren't happening like he thought they would. Some of the players just aren't totally on board with what Kelly is trying to implement.
I think it was similar with Dayne. Of course, no way to know for sure but from the things I picked up, it seemed that way.
