if he knows his blocking assignments and holds on to the damn football, jonas gray is the best RB on our roster. he's got the speed, his legs are the size of trevor robinson's, and he showed how agile he is with his feet in that silly move he put on in the spring game TD

I think Armando Allen has always been fantastic, and about 10 levels better than Walker. Walker flat out annoyed me with his sprint to the sidelines on every other carry.

Remember, as a freshman, AA ran behind the worst line in the country under one of the dumbest and most simplistic running schemes imaginable (Here AA, here's the ball. Go that way and find something. You can do it!). Everyone on this board could have stopped him because all you had to do was key on the fullback to know where the ball was going, or key on the tb's first step. No misdirection plays whatsoever it seemed. It seems to be he was a bit of a sacrificial lamb in an idiotic running scheme. I'm not surprised at all he got injured. Even opposing athletes from various teams have stated publicly that ND's offense was too predictable. I can't remember the sources, but more than one stated the same opinion.

You don't have to be an opposing athlete to see that the offense was predictable. The casual observer could easily see the lineup/formation/motion and predict the subsequent play. I remember standing in the stands for many of the games, calling every run play before it happened. It was so frustrating.

The most frustrating was the 3rd and 1 situation when Aldridge would line up in the backfield (an immediate clue that it was a run up the middle) and we would watch Aldridge run straight and then get stuffed short of the first down every single time.

And meanwhile, all the opposing offense had to do was start right then cut left or start north then cut east or west wide to go for a long run. ND's entire front seven had already committed to the TB's first step. Hook, line, and sinker. ZERO lateral pursuit. ZERO LB pass support. DB's were hung to dry.

But I've said that before. Shame on me.

Maybe not the kind of misdirection that I am talking about when it comes to a complete running package. Relatively speaking, based on what I've seen in countless hours of film study (at many levels but not ND), CW's running game was vanilla. A well executed misdirection play is set up beforehand (I'm sure you know BGIF, just sayin...), and the OLine, if well practiced, can pick up any stunt. Refer to any highlight video during the Holtz years.

I would rather watch the wing T at a local high school game than watch CW's run game theory in action.

Coach Robinson at Grambling St. ran a fantastic misdirection wing offense.

Watch this video and notice the DE (or OLB) at the top of the screen freeze himself out of the play not knowing where the hell to go...

Sorry for such a fundamental video, but it is funny to watch the defense look baffled. Sometimes the OLine doesn't even need to block. Can you find the ball? A good offensive scheme can make an average guy look great, and a great defender look stupid.

ive always like AA's runs when its a draw. the draw play that started back with tom brady really and carried over to brady quinn. where he drops back and holds the ball and hands it off with his left hand while having his right one up as if hes in throwing position. AA always seems to run better off those obviously i know its partly due to misconception of a pass
