I actually thought we would be in single digits after the recruiting week we just had.

I do not agree with his analysis that an early signing date only hurts the player. The coaches who live to poach recruits will have to actually to change their tactics (I mean you, Urban Meyer). An early signing period would also play into CW's favor allowing him to focus less attention on "fence-sitters" and allow him to put more time on the kids who want to be Irish!

absolutly right bd. i think it would allow all coaches to direct thier recruiting to players who havent signed on instead of having to call every player to make sure you are still in thier good graces and it would show the schools what kids are determined to go to the school. and it would make every kid accountable for his actions

With Notre Dame scoring another top ten recruiting class, I look forward to many years of watching
the Irish winning many and I mean many football games.... the foundation is being set as we speak!

At this early stage, the rankings don't mean much. The question is are we filling the needs. If they can get two more top o-line recruits and a couple top d-line recuits then they will end up with a good class for 2009. If they actually play well this year, I expect a killer 2010 class.

We have the potential to end up with the 2nd or 3rd best recruiting class in the nation...I'm conceding that OU will likely end up #1. But I'll gladly take 2 or3 for the next 50 years......

thats fine. as far as what other people think about our recruiting classes i really dont care. its nice to see the name really high and stuff but the quality of player they are bringing in is better than most people think. not to mention we arent messing with checkered pasts. quality people go here not just quality athletes.

No way the end up that high. A top 10 finish would be considered great since we aren't expected to sign a full class. SEC schools will be signing close to 30 players and there is no way the we would be able to rank higher when we are only signing 20, including 2 kickers.

It's a good start for sure. Let's see how it plays out.

I am concerned we have a good ranking based on warm bodies. We could easily drop given the number of SUB-4 star kids we have.

Yup, i agree- w 2 kickers who no matter how good they are seldom get more than 3 stars at the most, will not allow us to rank as high as we should. But thats ok w me.

#2 or #3?

I honestly can't imagine that happening in a million years based on who has been recruited to date. To be honest, I don't think the math will work out.

HOWEVER, we are filling some of the most pressing needs, so that is good. I bet we will end up with the #12 class...possibly as high as #8.

if we get "X" i think we could definitly make top 10. yes the kickers bring the ave down as do the two te's but this is a year we are addressing needs as well.

Agreed! Somewhere in the #8-#12 range it appears to be w/ the players committed and the ones still potentially to come on board. It will be a solid crew coming in, that's the main thing .... regardless of the ranking.

Exactly right bro, whats the point in bringing in a five star recruit whos past and future are questionable. Its not just about the number of stars a recruit brings to the table, its getting a good player that you know we can trust on and off the field.

Well, stars matter a LOT...however, at a place like ND character matters just as much. It makes getting into and staying in ND that much harder.

It's a testament to the coaching staff, professors, administration, and the scholar-athletes themselves that our grad rate is constantly in the Top3 for Football (and other sports)
