Anyone concerned about the White Out?

I'm sure when you flash back to the sea of Nebraska red shirts, you want to throw up. Well, this year I believe Penn State has decided to attempt to "white out" the game with Notre Dame. I have a feeling that this could be very similar to the Nebraska game.

Anyone else a bit disturbed at this possibility?

Nah, I can't see it happening. EVERYONE wants to be there. I admit that more PSU fans will make it than their allotment dictates...but cmon this game was SUPER requested through the lottery. People are dying to go.

I don't think, even if this game was at PSU and had the atmosphere of last year's OSU game there, it would change the outcome. This PSU squad just won't be good enough. But this won't happen anyway. There'll be a lot of PSU fans, but nothing special. Remember, on the road, even WITH Michael Robinson, this team got pushed around by NW last year. Morelli and Co are going to have a hard time.

I don't see it happening. I think demand for the tickets from both fanbases is high. A lot of the tickets being sold on ebay, stubhub etc are being purchased by ND fans. Not many ND fans wanted to see the Nebraska game because they figured it would be a "L".

I am from western PA and there are a lot of Penn St. fans around. I have heard from a few PSU alumni who were trying to obtain tickets that it was extremely difficult and the asking prices were ridiculous and they were going to try to scalp tickets at the game. I don't think that there will be a "whiteout" effect going on in South Bend on Sept. 9, however we as fans could do something proactive by not scalping to Penn St. fans on that day.

I think there will be a white out around the stadium as thousands of PSU fans are travelling to the game without tickets and hopes to find some. Then again, so will Irish fans. I'm sure there will be more than the usual amount of visitors in the stands. But that's about it.

I hope those thousands of PSU fans like the JACC.

IF, thats a big if, this did happen that would be horrible because this years shirt is navy so most of the stands would be navy and white. I'm not to worried about it though, can't seeing it happen.

Its a real shame for any ND fan to sell their ticket to a PSU fan. I don't care how much you need the money.

Anyone know if school officials are going to try and do anything about this? I really hope they try and crackdown on this activity so we don't have any repeat of the Nebraska game...

It will look like an avalanche with all those white shirts heading for the exits late in the third quarter.

no way, so many ND fans want those tickets. this is different then the Neb. game (which I was at), then no one thought ND could win, this time everyone believes. and no matter what, the student section is gonna be solid blue (and green).

Yeh, I'm going and though it kills me will be wearing a ND jersey so I can get tickets for my buddies. There's about 20 of us heading out there. We'll all have ND t-shirts, hats, etc and be fairly well-versed in ND football. Should pay off with tickets at decent prices we figure. Don't worry though, we will all have white shirts on underneath.
This is the kind of crap that has me worried. I've heard of probably 10-20 groups of PSU students (20+ large) having tickets and going this route.

Not only do I see it happening, i expect it to happen. I see at least 15k of PSU fans. Every single PSU fan I know (and I unfortunately know a lot) will be there for that game. Albeit nearly all of them don't have tickets but most are willing to pay. And regardless of how much we don't like to admit it a big portion of our fan base will dump for the right price.

Every time we get in a home and home with a team that has a good fan base, they want to come and see ND, the tradition, the grotto, basilica, everything. They point to this game as their one trip or even their only trip or vacation that year. Tennessee had a strong contingent and FSU had a huge one as well 3 yrs back. It's disgusting that people sell but it is reality. I have 8 tickets for the game and I am not selling a single one.

If 65,000 ND fans can't drown out 15,000 PSU fans in a BIG game like this then there is something wrong. No worries fellas.

I was at that Nebraska game, and those fans won that game for them in OT. They probably had about 25000-30000 fans, and they all seemed to be around the student section, and they were LOUD. We had the ball with 2 minutes left on our own 20 and the game was tied, and Arnaz Battle was so rattled by those fans. (although it was his first start and he suffered a broken wrist early in that game) All im trying to say is we probably could have won that game if it werent for all those fans, and they can make a huge difference if there is enough of them.

A word to any ND fans trying to sell to other ND fans. Be wary. If a guy comes up to you wearing blue and gold Zubazz and Powlus for Heisman T-shirt, it's a trap. Do not sell him any tickets. He is a UPS fan.

I will be doing my part but I've been to a lot of CFB games in my life, and I would say we are the most respectful but also the most reserved fanbase at home.. My buddy got into a fight with nearly everyone sitting behind last year becuase we were standing in the 4th quarter of the MSU game. I'm all for showing respect to those who sit around me but we just made an improbable comeback and standing to cheer on the defense is just part of it. That really pisses me off, if you don't want to stand and cheer, watch it from your couch at home. And I don't care if you are a '62 alum and you have had hip replacement surgery, I take great pride in being the 12th man and if you can't take it then go home and collect your social security and watch reruns of the Golden Girls...

Could not agree more. We, as fans pay a lot of money to go to South Bend to see games (tickets, gas, hotels, food, drink, etc...) and I can't stand when you are surrounded by a bunch of "fans" that do not get into the games. Stand and go nuts IMO, get on your feet and cheer for ND. Just so that the people standing and screaming are not swearing and carrying on in an inappropriate manner (I've sat next to idiots like this who are cussing and making threats when there are kids around).

Exactly, being respectful and being loud are in fact mutually exculsive. I'll be going nuts, count on it..

Yeah, how's Charlie gonna see JoePA run up the white flag at halftime?
