Any Computer Guys Out There?

There is one site that I cannot get to load in Chrome or IE. It gives a ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT error.

I had this problem with wifi and then plugged my ethernet cord in my laptop and it worked for about 2 weeks. Then started to give the same error. So I got a modem/router replacement by Time Warner and the site worked for about 5 days.

Today I was on the site and then it popped the same error. Spent 2 hours on the phone with TWC only to have them tell me they couldnt figure it out.

Any tips?

Well, let's put the debugging hat on.
1. Do others have a problem accessing the site from your location?
2. Are you having this problem with all of your devices (desktop, laptop, iPad)?
3. You can access all other sites with no problem?

First thing I would do is see if the is an update for your NIC (network card). I would also clear the cache in your browser.

What make, model and OS are you running?

1. I am not sure but I have confirmed with about 10 other people the site is not down.
2. I can access it on my LTE on my phone, but if I use WiFi on my phone or laptop I cannot access it.
3. All sites work minus the one I need.

I have cleared my caches/etc.

I am using a Dell laptop, not sure model and Windows 8

Here's an example of what you see. Notice it shows timing per path. If you are stalling out somewhere, could be a problem with your ISP.

ISP probably set some shitty DNS provider in your modem/router settings...

may also want to try a tracert in the command prompt. Can at least remove suspicion of external issues (the path to the website). Very easy. Here's directions.

open command prompt
type "tracert www.irishenvy.com" and press enter.

Trace a path by using the tracert command: TCP/IP

It's a network issue and not your laptop if it is happening on multiple devices. Try tracing like John suggests.

Do you have a separate wireless router or is it a combo unit with the modem?

I hate those. What's the make and model #? This only happens with this particular site?

It would be nice to isolate the problem a bit more, although it certainly seems your TWC combo modem/router is the likely culprit.

I'd find out what the IP Address of the website you are trying to access is and try to run the ping command.

Goto here and enter the site address. It will give you it's IP address.

Now I'm not a Windows 8 person, but it must still have the ability to run the command prompt. On most Windows it's done by hitting the 'start' button and entering 'cmd' (w/o apostrophe) in the 'Run' box, but there may be a 'Command Prompt' icon under Accessories in 'All Programs'.

Once you have a command console try 'ping #.#.#.#' and see if it times out or if you get a reply.

That will tell us if it's a DNS issue.

This is all about process of elimination.

Not pretty. It looks like it's hopping from provider to provider. I think the DNS is getting screwed up somewhere along the line.

That leans more to a routing problem with TWC. You should ask to have your ticket escalated to level 2 support.

The script reading monkeys that you get when you call at first are NOT going to be able to effect this.

If it were DNS I don't think it would even try to get there. This looks like routing.

I mean, if the combo box allows you to change the DNS servers it uses via a web interface or a TWC tech willing to do it, you could try the google DNS servers at 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 respectively, but I believe this to be a routing issue on their end; thus the hop scotch.

Escalate that ticket!

P.S. A tracert from the other end would be helpful.. but that's a lot to ask.

The Arris is a typical unit used by a lot of ISP's.

Each time that it has provided the error message in the last two weeks is when I have been doing stuff in the dashboard of the website. The site is through wordpress.

Would the site/host/etc block me for whatever reason? I dont know jack about computers, so I dont know if thats a legit concern.

The IP for your modem/router is 192.168.0.1. Put that in the address line of your browser and see if you get a login page. If you do, try admin for the login and pw. More than likely they modified it before they sent it to you.

I do not know that. I tried every password that I have for the ISP

I think your right which would also explain it being an intermittent problem.
