Anthony Lewis, on Scout, had a comment that ND is not recruiting him anymore. He suggests b/c ND has filled their available slots.

Think he's right? I would think the only thing keeping ND from recruiting him would be grades.

does that mean ND has filled up it's last five spots or filled up their LB needs with richardson and smith?

The quote on Scout is:
He also visited Notre Dame on October 14, but says the Irish are no longer recruiting him. "I guess they filled all their spots," Lewis said.

Lewis is an OLB, same as Richardson.

Since Smith is an ILB, if he goes elsewhere, this might open the door for Tongo of Naperville, IL.

I think Smith is going to go Irish and Richardson's decision may have a lot to do with that.

"Anthony is no longer looking at Notre Dame," Haltom coach Kenny Perry said. "I think it's a case of both moving on to other things. He really liked Notre Dame on his visit, but he just didn't know if he wanted to go that far away, and we understand that they picked up another linebacker, so it's going to work out best for both parties."

ANOTHER linebacker? I wonder if he means Richardson or another linebacker WITH Richardson.

Toryan Smith will be Irish. I'm about 90% sure of it.

Are these comments after Richardson committed? If so, that would lead me to believe that there is another linebacker in addition to Richardson.

Yes, they were made after Richardson's verbal.

They're aware of the spots left, I"m sure. ND wants two linebackers.

I've spoken with Jason Sapp over at BGI via private message. Based on what those guys have heard, Toryan Smith is looking really good for ND on Monday.

Fingers crossed....

Sounds good!

I understand Smith was ND's #1 LB target and he appears to be well thought of by a lot of the majors including Bama, the Gators, the Sooners, the Wolverweasels, and the Sooners to name a few of his pursuers.

I've been puzzled throughout the recruiting season with Smith's ranking, 3 star #46 LB by Scout. Rivals also has him at 3 stars and I'm not sure being ranked the #14 OLB is much of a difference from #46 overall. Scout lists his attributes as: Size, Aggressiveness, and Instincts, and his Area For Improvement as Footspeed. At 240 pounds a 40 of 4.65 or 4.7 isn't shabby. If he can move at least as fast as Lyron Cobbins I'd be pleased. I believe it was Cobbins who when asked what his 40 time was, replied, "4ever!"

I fully recognize it's the coach's call and from the start this was their guy. I' also awared the gurus don't all see the recruits but with combines, film, etc today this kid was no sleeper. Still puzzled why he ranks as a mid-level LB with all the big time offers if his only area of improvement is a 4.7 40?

I expected him to move up in the rankings as the season progressed and his offers grew but he didn't. And I'm not complaining (unless his verbal eliminates a blue chip OL) just puzzled.

Yeah, I see Smith on the cusp of 3 stars to 4. He's a lot better than the service sites are giving him credit for.

I love ND's chances here. Hopefully he dons the ND cap on Monday.

BGI talked with Lewis last night.

He said that he's narrowed his choices down to three and Notre Dame is out because they're getting another verbal from a linebacker. He didn't mention Toryan Smith by name, but I don't think he really has to.

It looks like unless something unforeseen occurs this weekend, Toryan will be Irish.
