How do we play on defense tomorrow? Rather, how would you go about handling the Trojan offense ? Would you play aggressive and tee off on Boootay and take your chances, or lay back conservative, hoping to match scores ? Personally, Im all for the aggressive all, or nothing.

Well one thing is for sure... when we DO go with cover two and or lay back... we should make damn sure Ziby knows his job is indeed to stay back in zone coverage and not run up and look for someone to hit....

Well, he's a freshman only in the sense that this is his first year with the starting position. The guy like left the 5th grade to get a head start at USC...and then sat on the bench for a pretty long time. So he's been surrounded by the stuff and knows his position a lot better than, let's say, Colt McCoy.

But I agree with what you said about blitzing. If we can't stop USC's offense with the usual gameplan, we might as well take risks knowing that we're going to give up points anyway.

I think it depends on whether or not the offense comes out scoring or they come out looking lame in the first half.
If you blitz all day you are going to get burned acouple times. Although if we drop back and cover our D has a good chance of getting burned anyways.
Either way we will need a hot offense from the get go and a turnover or two. I like our boys in this fight, but I can not help worrying about the D.

Play aggressive. Jam the receivers. Will get beat undoubtedly but make Jarrett pay - often and early. Making Booty work harder which might give Laws, Landri, Victor, and Crum the time they need to get to him.

We need to have some kind of blitz package which we've seen rarely this season. UCLA has a much similar offense as USC and the ONLY time or defense stopped UCLA (who by they way has turned out to be a decent team) is when we started to throw in some blitzes. I was watching the Minter defense of 92 during the USC game and it looked quite similar w/the cover two and we the QB had all day to throw and was chewing us up. I hope to see some mixes rather than this bend but don't break defense. The defense will have to take some chances and instruct Wooden and Lambert that this is college football and it's better to take the interference and the 15 yard penalty then to just get lost and burned for 89 yard TD passes.

Plus it would be nice to see Brady and his boys score and score often. It will just add to the pressure on Booty

Well, we really played an attack defense, didn't we? We let SC attack our defense all night long.

We played terrible defense, just terrible. There is absolutely no excuse for a defensive performance like that. And I don't want to hear that "lack of talent" bullshit either. Although we may be somewhat lacking in that area, the coaching is the real problem. There needs to be major changes on the defensive coaching staff immediately, and the O line coaching needs to be looked at with very close scrutiny.

We just keep getting blown out in big games, OSU, Michigan and now SC again.

Much agreed. I hate the comeback of "we dont have talent" It's coaching PERIOD. FIRE THE DOUCHE BAG MINTER!
