It's being reported that he is transfering to Northwestern. If this is fact confirmed I wish him well. He is another player that is slipping on the depth charts , which is a byproduct of the outstanding talent we are bringing in

Its sad to see him leave (if it's true) since he never hit the field, but maybe the writing is on the wall with the LBs coming it this season.

He was a tough fit. We recruited him as an OLB in the 4-3, but he's to small to play that in the 3-4. It definately sucks to lose depth, just don't think he would have seen the field before his senior year.

I wish him the best of luck. I stated even last year that this kid would be lucky to ever see the field at ND. He is just not big enough or talented enough. I have no ill will toward him and wish him well. As for losing depth, this will happen when you are developing elite talent.

if true this is a good thing. i think it hurts the overall cohesion and morale of the team when you have a bunch guys that just dont belong talent wise. this will cease to be a problem as the incoming talent gets better and better each year. best wishes to nagel though.

He was recruited for a 4-3 D...which soon became a 3-4 D. He was the right guy for the wrong D. That's not his fault. He's not quitting either, he's merely moving to another Top20 DivI-A school.

Ditto. Square peg, round hole. If the rumor is true, here's to him finding the right system and place for his needs.

I hope he doesn't leave-I was high on him when he came and I'm hoping he finds a role here

i see and totally understand what you guys are saying. hes build for the 4-3 thats fine. but one of my biggest problems is my pride. i hope he goes on and has great success (except against us) but i just dont understand wealking away (if true) he can go play elsewhere or with his brother or for his favorite team but you signed a letter. your signature binds you to an agreement. its like people today just dont care oh it didnt work out so instead of busting my ass to get where i have to be ill just go somewhere else where its a little bit easier. im just questuiioning his intestinal fortitude. id love for him to stay and bust some people in the mouth but if he goes he goes. were notre dame we'll recover. hoope hes along for the ride though

This happens every where, you just don't see it unless it's a big time player. Once Notre Dame reaches the level, where they are playing for a national championship every year, these kids will be willing to wait for their turn. In Nagel's case he was going to be a special teams player, who would have to out hustle the other LB's to get a chance to play. I think the too small to play in the 3-4 is not a good excuse, as all you have to do is look at a guy like Crum, who has been the most consistent LB despite his lack of size.

Good luck to the kid, may he find success where ever he lands. Now does this mean there will be one more scholarship for this years class?

I get ya, but I don't think it's realistic in a lot of cases. Take Ryan Mallett and the spread offense for example. I'm sure he could have worked it to some degree of success, he's shown himself to be a capable young quarterback. But that isn't what he signed up for, nor is it the coach he signed up for. In this case, if I recall correctly, Aaron might be feeling a little out of place having signed up for a 4-3 under Minter. With that system and coach he committed to gone, with yet another new position to attempt to learn, and with incoming talent that was recruited specifically for the position, he may feel this is the best option for him.

This is all speculative of course, I'm not all to sure what's really happening at this point, not am I on campus anymore to poke around and find out.
