I'll admit that it's sad that it comes down to this: We should beat Air Force. And we should be happy, not just satisfied, if we do.
Air Force lost to Navy and has one credible win to its credit this year -- versus TCU, which is having a down year.
Like Navy, AF is a smaller team. The QB is 5'10"; the RB is 5'8"; they are giving up 20 to 30 lbs on the line vis-a-vis Notre Dame.
But there will be a psychological hurdle to overcome. The Navy loss is going to sting all week; Sharpley is going to have to avoid dwelling on being the QB who lost the streak. Weis is going to get hammered by national media columnists.
But the rest of the schedule can be conquered, starting with AF. So if this team wins three in a row, they go into next season with a modicum of momentum and at least the knowledge that they can beat the teams they are supposed to beat. That gives you confidence to beat the teams that are supposed to be superior.
I haven't lost hope. This team will mature and Weis, I hope, will become a bit more conservative with last-minute play calling.
But it starts on Saturday versus AF.
Any dissenters -- I welcome your thoughts.

AF is very effective running the ball....the Irish don't play real good run defense. On offense, the Irish are bigger and stronger so you would think they could hammer away at the undersized defense but I am not sure if CW has the patience to follow through with that type of attack. With the way this season has gone, I see the Irish coming up short again and dropping to 1-9.

The team will mature??? When will this happen? There are only 3 weeks left in the season!

Sorry, but I'm a dissenter here. AFA is going to beat the crap out of us. I honestly think I might not watch it (live, anyway); these damn games are ruining my Saturdays.

I have learned to look at it this way... we are 1-11 until we win a game... then we are 2-10 until we win another...

mailing in a win with navy all year long really REALLY hurt after yesterday

I actually think we may be better off against AFA, they dont run that damn triple option that we just couldnt stop, so I think if our D can hold them we should win this game.

I hope we lose the rest of our games, because nothing will change unless CW becomes humbled enough to either change what he is doing, or the administration will force him to boot some coaches, or hire an OC that does the playcalling.

Southern Cal "beat the crap out of us." Michigan beat the crap out of us. The Air Force Academy is NOT going to beat the crap out of us.

My fellow domers, listen to yourselves. You sound just pitiful. These are 18 to 22 year olds who are playing hard every week, and regrettably, Weis has not prepared them. But they are improving.

Also, I haven't promoted the Irish this year, so if you recall some optimism before the Navy game, it wasn't from me. I was prepared to lose to Navy. The sailors played like I thought they would.

However, I think Sharpley is improving. So is the run game. And at least AF does not run that triple option, as was said by another poster here.

In conclusion, boys, it would be just another loss if we lose. But it would mean progress if we win. So suck in your collective guts, stick our your chests, and walk tall for a change.

Mine too. I have noticed that I have the worse headaches after watching Notre Dame this year. And I'm serious. I'm not saying that to be funny. It's sad. Air Force 34 Notre Dame 26

Air force does run a form of the option. It's called wishbone or flexbone, And if run well (which they do) that offense in my opinion is more deadly. Can Air Force beat us? Yes they can. Deleware could beat us. Do I think they could blow us out?? Yeah but not likely. I say we lose this game as well.

Newsflash: No matter the avatar you choose, you are not Lou Holtz. Even if you were, I would still tell you that you need take off the homer glasses and take a long hard look at how absolutely atrocious this program is right now and come back from ESPN "pep talk" land and back to reality.

timugen; this is a legit question... why are you so offended when ND fans try stay positive??

Not combative here, but I am just wondering, seems you only post these days when you are trying to stop someone from being 'happy' on this board, am I wrong?

No....I am just tired of all the excuses and delusional kool-aid drunks. I can handle that (and participate in it) from time to time, but when it is the same old song and dance EVERY SINGLE WEEK, NO MATTER WHO WE'RE PLAYING OR HOW HORRIBLY WE PLAY then it gets very irritating very quickly. It's time for a lot of us to accept the reality of what is happening on the field as opposed to sugar-coating it.

As for staying positive... that's great. I wish I had reason to at this point, but I'm a realist. We're in the process of wrapping up a historical nightmare of a football season with little indication (from an unbiased eye) that things will necessarily get better in the future.

So I apologize for not trying to polish a turd like so many on here bend over backwards to do, and I'm sorry if I've rained on your parade.....I just prefer to "call 'em as I see 'em."

good enough... it is a nightmare... and we can all post whatever the hell we want as long as it's not obscene or a personal attack so you have every right... thanks for an honest response

And thank you for respecting my (maybe not-so-popular) point of view.

Hopefully this serves as an example to some posters on here that you actually can post some tactful and honest dissent without having your posts deleted or being banned.

Now go back to the Cleveland Browns board and destroy that. You're legend is truly growing over there. Why not stay?

Wow...very clever (and mature, I might add). But riddle me this....how exactly does what I post affect what has happened on the field this year with our football team?

And how exactly have I "destroyed" this board, as you seem to be implying?

If a harsh look at reality "destroys" this board, then.....well, I'll let you finish that thought.
