I'll admit that it's sad that it comes down to this: We should beat Air Force. And we should be happy, not just satisfied, if we do.
Air Force lost to Navy and has one credible win to its credit this year -- versus TCU, which is having a down year.
Like Navy, AF is a smaller team. The QB is 5'10"; the RB is 5'8"; they are giving up 20 to 30 lbs on the line vis-a-vis Notre Dame.
But there will be a psychological hurdle to overcome. The Navy loss is going to sting all week; Sharpley is going to have to avoid dwelling on being the QB who lost the streak. Weis is going to get hammered by national media columnists.
But the rest of the schedule can be conquered, starting with AF. So if this team wins three in a row, they go into next season with a modicum of momentum and at least the knowledge that they can beat the teams they are supposed to beat. That gives you confidence to beat the teams that are supposed to be superior.
I haven't lost hope. This team will mature and Weis, I hope, will become a bit more conservative with last-minute play calling.
But it starts on Saturday versus AF.
Any dissenters -- I welcome your thoughts.
