He’s been to ND 4+ times and will official in June. Feels like we haven’t been pushing but maybe we turn up the heat with Gavin Williams trending elsewhere.

Pretty wild, because he’d be a jewel or a BK class. Offers from everyone and composite top 150.

I want him as the 2nd safety, but it seems ND was recruiting him as a CB. With G. Williams trending away, I wonder if that changes things.

I’ve learned to not doubt this staff, but DB recruiting has been a little puzzling after the commitments from Hassan and Alston. Zay Gamble was a great get. Slow playing Harrington, but pushing hard for a commitment from John Gay? The staff has been pretty elite at evals, so I’ll trust them.

I thought it was the opposite? Thought he wanted to play cb initially but is more open to safety

Fits the mold perfectly of the body type we've been recruiting at safety

Feel like losing Mickens hurt us big time in secondary recruiting. If he was still on staff we probably could’ve signed about anyone we wanted. Now you’re dealing with a new coach and a loaded depth chart ahead of this class so recruiting might take a dip. I hope that it doesn’t end up like LB recruiting that we were solid at a few years ago now though is more shaky

We have easily the #2 DB class in the country, following easily the #1 DB class in the country. I don’t think secondary recruiting is lacking at all, we just already did the work months ago for the core.

Yeah guys we have two elite CBs committed in Hasan and Alston, who really don’t get enough love bc they committed so early. We also beat out OSU and Miami for Gamble, another top 200 player.

They have the luxury of being selective for the final spot. They also have earned the right to take a chance on a guy like Gay.

That may be true, but I have heard that ND was targeting him specifically as a CB. I hope that has changed. I think Harrington has elite potential.

Feel like it will be Michigan? Just with his teammate committing there this week

What about his defensive teammate, LB Igwebuike, who doesn’t have Michigan in his top 5 and is down to ND, Tennessee, Missouri, Indiana, and Clemson.

Trust the staff, but would love to hear the story here and with the last safety spot in general. Doesn’t seem like we pushed but maybe that’s cope.

So... Who's getting the last safety spot? It's clearly looking like the weakest area of this class.

After last year, I can see why it is a little less star studded. Hard to top JOB and Pouncey ( even if he is a CB now) + the transfers.

Last year's class had 1 safety and we didn't get any in the portal. This is not ideal by any stretch of the imagination. Maybe we turn up the heat on trying to flip Jaylyn Jones now? Or we move further down the board.

If we have a big year, we're going to be able to flip dudes at positions of need, like we have in previous years. Mike talked about this on power hour yesterday. If we end up going undefeated and playing for a Natty, I could see us flipping 1-2 guys that we aren't even talking about right now.

My guess is they figured they're spending enough on DB in this class. They'll see if there's any late bloomers and try to add somebody in-season to fill out that last slot.

I got my hopes up and finally watched his film. Let me be clear I absolutely want him but this isn't a KVA level LB, IMO. He's smaller and his highlights show athleticism and big hits, but he's not an in the box fighter, at least not from his highlights. He's not rubbing shoulders and shedding blocks like a KVA. He almost seems like a charged up Ausberry.

Absolutely want him in the class but my expectations of him being an immediate impact player were tampered a bit from his highlights. But again maybe he has those in the box skills and they just didn't show on his film.
