I heard the kid wanted to commit last week but Freeman told him he should first visit Larry Johnson at OSU and Elston at Michigan to get a final assessment on whether he wants to “Choose Hard” and attend Notre Dame.

But does he work as a barista at a chain coffee establishment? Dunkin? Tim Horton’s? Biggby?

Ryan Day told him he didn’t need to keep working on that job. Freeman told him to keep working at least until the FUND could create some neat volunteering opportunities.

Chicago (Ill.) Simeon four-star edge-rusher Chris Burgess has been blowing up this offseason. The class of 2025 talent picked up a Notre Dame offer back on March 17 and then added offers from Iowa, Ole Miss, Indiana, Missouri, Georgia, Tennessee and most recently Alabama.

IDK, offered by IU, now that's a game changer!

Yea, it’ll be interesting to see what type of recruitment this becomes.

Good news is, he’s getting in campus a lot.

I would try taking an early commitment this time if offered. Just try it out see how it feels.

I would love to see ND land a CPL player. The last one was Robert Hughes.

Simeon is one of the better programs in the city traditionally, and while I have no idea how he'd stack up in some of the tougher leagues in the Chicago area, he's got everyone after him so the offer list speaks for itself.

5 trips to Illinois, 5 trips to ND, 4 trips to Michigan. His last two trips were July and September to Notre Dame.

Are we allowed to be optimistic here?

Going back to October, he's liked a ton of obscure ND posts like Tommy Powlus being a PWO here and RJ Cromartie from Penn committing here to play baseball. A lot of ND likes. More recently some Michigan likes. Some OSU likes too.

If following the social media activity, I think it's ND but it certainly could be Michigan.

If ND signs this guy, it's a huge win on multiple levels. Chicago Public League Football has made decent gains this century with not a great deal of resources. Simeon is a great school for ND to crack into for talent, and this would be the first CPL player to ND for football that I can recall since Robert Hughes and that's pushing 20 years now.

He also visited ND for the Clemson game last season.

To add to your point, he visited ND 5 times this year, Ohio State twice, and every other school just once.

There were always some concerns with Burgess if he made an "SEC swing" of visits. He had mentioned wanting to visit Georgia, LSU and Alabama, but to my knowledge those visits never happened. Biggest thing with him is if he commits, would he stick?

His mom is on board with ND. He specifically mentioned that he wanted his mom to check out schools with him. Again, to my knowledge, his mom has only visited the ND campus with him.

This makes sense for a couple of reasons. Academics and proximity.

Simeon kids are going to have their heads on straight more often than not. I like this because if it ends up happening, it shows that Freeman and Washington have demonstrated a little bit of reach because while he's from Chicago he's not from Mt. Carmel or St. Rita. CPS makes it different, and other than Zorich and Hughes it's tough to name other CPS guys who came to ND in the last 40 years.

This would be pretty big on a regional level, and Burgess is also a national recruit.

Moms are always good with ND. It's just getting the kid to listen to his mom and ignore everything else! lol
