Fine player. 23 class and 25 class could make this irrelevant.
I guess what I mean is we're already at the finish line of the recruitment. If he visited this upcoming weekend, it didn't feel like we made any traction, and he extended his recruitment a few more months, then yeah maybe read the tealeaves and move on. But in this case, JL basically just came in and bodied ND. Oh well, probably wasn't happening anyway, just wild how much a difference he made here. He's seems to have been trending to Ohio State for a couple of weeks right? I'm only speculating that they knew one way or another.
No additional time wasted.
Was thinking this as well. Still a couple of other good targets out there they can land. As good as Pierce is, you're looking at safety and edge being primary spots that are more important for this cycle.
That’s an indictment on Golden and Freeman. If a GA is your top recruiter at a position, someone isn’t doing their job.he was gone as soon as Laurinitis left

That’s not an excuse. He was the defacto LB coach though

Because this one particular kid chose to follow him to program that hasn't finished ranked lower than sixth in the last decade? That’s an indictment on Golden and Freeman. If a GA is your top recruiter at a position, someone isn’t doing their job.
Being in the top 50 is a baseline requirement. And great programs don’t punt on recruiting a position bc the previous class was solid.Because this one particular kid chose to follow him to program that hasn't finished ranked lower than sixth in the last decade?
They just signed 3 LB in the last class that were in the Top 50 in their class at their position.
Heard that before with ND … seems to never work outLB is the least of my concerns with the current room and the 2023 class. They can afford to miss on their top targets and be fine as long as they hit in 2025. 2021-2023 classes were loaded at LB.
Chiles is on the board tooIMO, the mike backer board was always Pierce and Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa. Losing Pierce raises the need to land KVA.
Not sure if they view Sullivan growing into a Mike or if he's a Will prospect.

Also, Sullivan & Kahoun as the other 2 LBs isn’t a good haul at all.
I’d be shocked if they viewed Cole as Mike right now. I was being facetious the other day about it when it was brought up how skinny he is. They recently moved Ziegler to Mike and he was much further along than Cole was physically.IMO, the mike backer board was always Pierce and Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa. Walking away. He's baaaaaaaaack
He’s an OLB, possible VyperChiles is on the board too
He's not the linebackers coach. Why are we having a hard time closing LBs when Freeman was an LB?? You would think we would have a stacked LB recruiting class.
but he’s supposed to be the lead recruiter. He's not the linebackers coach.
They have very good back to back classes at the LB position. I'm not all too concerned about the recruiting acumen at the position. Why are we having a hard time closing LBs when Freeman was an LB?? You would think we would have a stacked LB recruiting class.
That’s not how elite programs recruit, they don’t settle just bc they had strong classes in a position the class prior. They have very good back to back classes at the LB position. I'm not all too concerned about the recruiting acumen at the position.
Though, depending on how they perform this year, I think concern could be raised for the development at the position. Year 3 needs to see either the vets step up or the young guys take over. I expect it'll be the latter but it has to be one or the other.
At all the positions.but he’s supposed to be the lead recruiter.
You love to put words in people’s mouths/posts. I said nothing of settling. In fact, I made no judgement of the current class. That’s not how elite programs recruit, they don’t settle just bc they had strong classes in a position the class prior.
There’s a lot of signs pointing to them taking Sullivan and Kahoun. That’s not good. You love to put words in people’s mouths/posts. I said nothing of settling. In fact, I made no judgement of the current class.
At the present, there is no data point, to say they won’t land a very good class or that they are settling. You are saying that, no one else. We are a long long way from signing day with a coach that has a track record of recruiting the position very well.
Seems reasonable to give the benefit of the doubt to the group that has signed those classes until they don’t. Then we discuss it.

This 100%. Recruiting doesn't matter if you can't get them to play well. There's no excuse for the LB position to not be significantly improved this year with the talent and depth on the roster. There's only 1 jr and no seniors (3 5th year seniors) so that's not perfect. The position is ready to have 5th year senior leaders that have played a ton complimented by young talent. They have very good back to back classes at the LB position. I'm not all too concerned about the recruiting acumen at the position.

Is the goal for ND to win titles or not? If Kelly was recruiting these guys as 2 of their top 3 LBs, you guys would crush him. This isn’t the level of recruiting Freeman promised. However, it can be salvaged if they get Villiamu-Asa.You're not good! Slow your role, this is a pretty tight knit group here, but you already know that, this is what, the 15th profile you have created?
