With the uncertainty about Mac Markway I looked at some guys again that I had looked at before. Ty Lockwood is as good as it gets. Excellent film. Big TE that works downfield like Rudolph did.

2020 stats: - 10G ... 43 rec ... 606 yds ... 3 TD's

He has a lot of follows with the staff and he's coming north for OSU's event right after ND's.

247 has OSU, MI & PSU as their WARM's so ND should jump right to the front of the line if they get involved.

I'd be getting him and his 4.3 GPA on campus on the 27th.

What's the hesitation on an offer? Only taking one TE?

No idea. I've read nothing associated with him and ND.

If they can get Howard, I could see them taking two. He's on the WR end of the FLEX spectrum.

What indicators are there that ND would jump to the head of the line?

They should just take 2 every year now that the portal is open for business.

Would we be taking two to make up for losses due to inevitable transfers or are guys transferring because we keep taking 2? Between the desire to get a degree + 2 TE sets w likely NFL future I wouldn’t expect TE transfers to be a issue

Kid from the SEC footprint with WARM’s to ND’s 3 biggest northern recruiting rivals, ND is TE U and he has a 4.3 GPA. Besides that, WKG.

Chicken or the egg right? It's a great question, but I lean toward taking 2 because of the portal/draft/injuries AND it seems it is easier to get quality TEs rather than WRs at ND. Not saying we don't get quality WRs, but it just seems easier. If ND can get 2 TEs, a flex and and in line each year, that would be ideal to me.

8 TE’s every 4 cycles seems excessive to me. If we’re going to continue to run a lot of two TE sets than I get wanting to have more on the roster but 8 seems unnecessary. With an 85 man roster not every position can have a 4 deep. Carrying 8 would not only be making that 2nd TE spot permanent but it’s also be making both TE spots a 4 deep. With knowing that, I’m not making TE two of them. I think I’d rather us carry an extra one or two at almost any other position than TE. Maybe OL is close to the bottom of that list as well.

I think you target 6 and maybe you get an early defection or transfer from the group which gives you 4 or 5. That’s plenty.

Love this! Completely agree. I think with the level of talent that ND is capable of bringing in at TE they don’t need 8 scholarship dudes at TE. That’s a recipe for having a revolving door of transfers. I think in the 4-6 range is a great spot to be in. Maybe on some interesting years you get to 7 and see some attrition but always having close to 5 guys on the roster I think is plenty. I hope/wish their strategy would be to go after their favorites early and try and get one in that early crop. After that they keep recruiting the Michael Mayer level dudes or super high rated guys and if that produces a second one then awesome! If not, then save it for next year! Like 2023 I hope they get Markway and then either they’re done or they just keep on the top level dudes only!

Their fans aren't sweating, Well, some of the wacky ones are but every school has flips happening right now. As for Lockwood, they actually received a commitment recently from a 2nd TE that was rated higher than Lockwood.

I read the OSU boards a lot and many defensive recruits are waiting to see how their new defensive coaching staff turns out. Keep in mind, it's still July and these kids have a whole senior season left to play. Same with ND - a strong season will result in kids flipping to the Irish. Fans need to relax

Evidently Lockwood accidentally posted this video yesterday and then took it down shortly after posting. Maybe he forgot that it says "committed" at the :19 mark. Wonder if he would've waited awhile to announce the flip, but got called out on the tweet.

So not to say that the Bama brand doesn't sell itself in some regard, but truly the timing on things make people question things.

It's mid-May and Bama has 2 commitments from local kids only (at this point ND has 10-11) > Nick Saban makes comments about A&M buying their class > in the last 40 days, Bama gets 15 commits and jumps to the top class in the country.

I think that speaks for itself, pretty easy to read between the lines.

Idk, Bama usually starts slow, and then suddenly hits another gear and goes from some ridiculous ranking ~40 to the top 5.

Then as the actual season progresses and NSD gets closer, they do their usual thing on the field, and a few of the highly-rated, uncommitted prospects still available decide to join the evil empire.

I'd bet it has something to do with Saban *knowing* he will get who he wants, so they take longer to evaluate and be sure that they are targeting guys that will pan out. Other teams are filling their classes based on their usual evaluations, but Bama can afford to wait another month or two to turn it on, once they're sure which direction they'd like to go with their targets.

I'm sure NIL helped accelerate their annual 'heater,' though.

This has to help with his top recruiting classes. It's kind of been obvious that uncommitted kids get bumped towards the end of the year. If they wait to commit, obviously that school is going to have a "better" recruiting class.

Yeah, they way it plays out every year, this has to be by design.
