Exactly. Why are we overthinking this?

Angeli has played and shown competence, which is exactly what this team needs. You simply cannot throw in a complete unknown when there is a guy who has started games and played well able to step in.
Why not? So we don’t throw in a completely unknown when ATM comes to town next August? It has to be Angeli? Everyone is completely unknown until they’re not.

Do we think this is a playoff team? Because everyone to a man said that they were until it turned out RL can't throw a pass 10 yards downfield.

Angeli showed that he can do this. You don't toss in the towel and hand the keys to a true freshman if you still think you can be part of the top 12. I'm not ready to go there yet, so I play Angeli.

Play Steve with a package for Kenny every week. We can win and get ready for next year at the same time.

That, I'd be fine with. I do think Minchey needs touches this season to see what he can be.

But you don't just hand the job to CJ/Minchey when Angeli has shown that he can at least manage to complete a forward pass.

If it gives us the best chance to win you play him. I don’t care if it’s a TF or Angeli. If Minchey isn’t ready by now that’s another problem. I don’t think experience is the be all we need necessarily.

I don’t think steve could have beat A&M on the road, but I do think he can win every remaining game and gives you a much higher floor with a pretty loaded team like our roster then Riley does.

The only way we were winning a national championship this year was Riley was a top three round draft pick at minimum at quarterback. That’s obviously not the case. If my opinion, the goal should be making the playoff in building towards the future.

Bruh riley didn’t pass for a single touchdown against TAMU any of our quarterbacks could have beaten them.

Agree we must build towards the future - and at the same time all the other guys give us a better chance at winning now

I think if Freeman would've put Angeli in on the last possession we would've had a better chance to win. Angeli was on the sidelines warming up.

As much as I want to see Carr play- redshirt him and have him ready to compete for QB1 next season.

I agree- Minchey is an unknown, I would like to see what he can do, but not in yesterdays situation.

I don't care which one plays between SA or KM but if they aren't ready and have been in the program this leads more to the staff and past and prior coaches not being able to develop a QB. Development has been an issue for far to long. ND is able to get talented QBs on campus but after they are here their skills never improve.

Yeah. Seems like the Wimbush 2.0 experiment has been a failure. Time to pull the rip cord.

Genuine question but why not? Angeli has shown nothing but poise and composure, shown he can run the offense and make good reads, and can make all the throws they need him to make. He isnt as athletic as Leonard, but hes not a statue either. Aside from being a lower ranked kid I honestly am not sure why he has never gotten a fair shake. Hes done nothing but produce when given opportunity.

I don't think Angeli is the answer. He looked good against Oregon State backups in the bowl, but in the spring game he was mostly throwing short throws underneath and not pushing the ball. Carr was doing a lot of that, and very well. Minchey did a bit of it too, although he struggled a bit (Could have partly been the OL and his receivers though).

Angeli is a taller, more athletic Tommy Rees.

He just might be the Prince that was promised!

Angeli has looked absolutely solid. While he didn't push the ball much during the spring game, he also didn't make any big mistakes. I would much rather start giving reps to Carr though, he was cool and calm in the pocket. He was excellent down the field too.

Carr is the answer. He can’t be worse than Leonard even if he struggles a little . Give Love more touches and give CJ easy short range passes and let him open it up downfield after we get the lead and see where it goes. He’s going to have the best ball placement on the roster.

If you start CJ, you'll have 1 scholarship QB on the roster next year. It would be horrible roster management and would put way too much on Carr to not get hurt.

This. As much as I would love to work out the kinks on CJ we need depth in the room next year.

I'd like to see what Minchey can do. I think the best scenario is starting Steve and putting in packages for Minchey to get some reps. If there are a few games where we are well enough ahead (about as likely as me becoming Pope), then get CJ some reps at the end but keep it under 4 games to keep his year of eligibility.

This is kind of where I'm at too. Angeli is probably the most ready, but we should also find ways to see what Minchey is capable of. Carr, hopefully, is the long-term answer, but it's too early/too much downside risk to make him the guy right now.

Counterpoint:

If you DON'T start CJ, you still might have 1 scholarship QB on the roster next year. And he'll have ZERO real game experience.

Makes no sense why an incumbent starter would transfer. And if they did, they probably don't have the mentality you want in a starting QB.

I agree with all of you, but no transfer QB who cost money is going to be benched after 1 bad start. NIU or not.
