For comparison, the 2nd team OC is a RS Freshman who is already 6’4 1/4 307. We’re talking multiple years of development ahead of Otting. That will be very difficult to overcome while Craig is healthy and on campus. Not impossible but I’ll stick with unlikely.

Not sure where some of this not-even-playing-yet write-off commentary on Otting comes from.

There are nine centers in the NFL who play at less than 300 pounds, and seven who are LESS than 6'3".
The AVERAGE NFL center in a tick under 6'4' --- 6'3&7/8ths".

This is not the issue with Otting. His issues are:
A. how big is his wingspan? (I don't know but as a good BBall player maybe good.)
B. how flexible is he? (same comment.)
C. will he do the work to get the strength? (strength is Correll's big problem not his height in my opinion.)

I agree about being 6'3". Sam has done pretty well playing at 6'3".

As far as strength, do we know Correll isn't putting in the work? Maybe he doesn't have the physiology to increase his strength past what he's at now?

I didn't say Correll isn't putting in the work. "Putting in the work" referred to Otting comments. The comment on Correll was simply my observation that he wasn't (yet anyway) strong enough to face off against the power rush DTs on the field. I have hope that Correll will get there --- Mustipher got better as he grew into his career. But it MIGHT be true that in Correll's case he is just not quite made for this. For both he and Otting, let's not trash them without giving them a honest chance.

Went back and watched the 4th quarter he wasn't getting any push and was getting pushed back on 1-2 yards on most snaps.

Pretty tough to come into that situation and excel…..he was probably super focused on not making a mistake, especially on the snaps. I’d expect he’ll have a better chance to settle in knowing he’s starting the next game (and likely through the foreseeable future).

Joe’s time to shine. How did we think he looked Saturday?
I’ve heard Prister initially say he didn’t look good in their post-game analysis. On their pod, they said his PFF wasn’t great but neither was Craig’s in that game. Jamie said he’s a natural center & likely would only play there. His backup on the depth chart is undersized but I think he’s a true freshman. Jamie said Otting is very athletic & great at pulling…or at least he was in HS film. I’m sure he & Carr have been using every spare moment to work on snaps. That’s the key. Absher seems to be a fan favorite due to his size. If you want your best 5 out there, there’s a case to be made for Absher. I’ll let the experts sort it out & hope for a clean game.

Isn’t SC’s center out too?

Weren't we all drooling because of his basketball ability?

If Absher can snap I’m not sure why it wouldn’t be Absher. No offense to Otting.

Maybe the staff thinks Otting is a better true center. Put him in the NC State game to get his feet wet realizing they would need him there for the rest of the season. Also keeps Absher available for fill in duties at the guard and tackle positions where he may be more valuable should an injury occur.
