LB (15 OFFERS)
.9831 4* Cyrus Moss
.9830 4* Jalon Walker
.9802 4* Jaishawn Barham
.9801 4* Gabe Powers - OHIO STATE
.9750 4* Kobie McKinzie - OKLAHOMA
.9717 4* Dasan McCullough
.9649 4* Devon Jackson
.9574 4* Joshua Burnham
.9545 4* CJ Hicks - OHIO STATE
.9386 4* Braelon Allen - WISCONSIN
.9317 4* Sebastian Cheeks
.9132 4* Tevarua Tafiti
NR 3* Robby Snelling
NR 3* Nolan Ziegler
NR 3* Langston Patterson

Just thought I'd sort through the 247 offer list and positionally group these offers. It made me realize that Clark Lea is already casting a huge net for the 2022 LBer class which is awesome. I hope he's able to make a dent with some of these big time prospects cause he's offered almost all of the 4* LBers! Getting Cheeks and Tafiti on board would make a lot of fans happy for sure and I think Ziegler will be in the class as well at some point. Kind of ridiculous that Lea let it get to this point but here's his roster management for 2021 and 2022:

2021 (11 Scholarships)
RS SR Drew White
RS SR Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah
SR Shayne Simon
SR Bo Bauer
SR Paul Moala
RS JR Jack Lamb
RS SO Osita Ekwonu
RS SO JD Bertrand
RS SO Marist Liufau
RS SO Jack Kiser
FR Prince Kollie

2022 (6 Scholarships)
RS SR Jack Lamb
RS JR Osita Ekwonu
RS JR JD Bertrand
RS JR Marist Liufau
RS JR Jack Kiser
RS FR Prince Kollie

Obviously I think something will happen where maybe some Safeties come down to play LBer cause the numbers become almost a joke in 2022. Maybe they redshirt Bo Bauer or Shayne Simon or Paul Moala if they're backups this season or next. There's obviously a lot of time before the 2022 season but the numbers at LBer suddenly drop off after 2021 (JOK will almost certainly be gone before 2021 too so it'll likely be 10 maximum schollies which is okay but not great).

I don’t really see how it’s ridiculous. If we sign 3-4 guys in 22’ then we’re at 9-10 for 3 spots. Seems completely reasonable from a numbers perspective.

You simply cannot have a 4 deep at all positions so a 3 deep plus one makes sense. Heck, I think you could make the argument that 9 is plenty with having to account for more Nickel CB’s on the roster. And/or playing more 3 S schemes.

If he gets 4 impact recruits in 2022 then I've got no problems at all. He did turn down some opportunities to go after some good dudes in the last two cycles in order to keep the numbers down and the transfers from happening but it puts the eggs into one recruiting cycle which I am not a fan of. It doesn't spread out the experience. If he gets the job done in the 2022 class then awesome, but if it doesn't turn out really well then the last two cycles will have been a mistake. Cody Simon obviously had some ties lol, Nick Herbig's friend and teammate committed to ND with Herbig himself being interested in ND, and Kalel Mullings visited 3 times only for the staff to switch to recruiting him as a RB before committing to Michigan. I'm not saying Lea has to get 3 every cycle and maintain a roster of over 12 dudes, but the 1 recruit in 2 cycles is a dangerous game because it forces amazing recruiting or "HITS" in certain cycles. The II Podcast has voiced their concern about this because if the 2019 class doesn't hit then there's some serious trouble where some freshmen would need to come in right away and contribute. Now, the chances of that happening are extremely slim and I think Lea is as good of a teacher and developer of talent as there is, but the recruiting strategy is a bit weird.

Zeigler and cheeks would be an awesome start. Is Tafiti an LB? Let's see what Elston stays there, but if they grab him as an LB that's a solid class. Then you swing for the fences on number 4.

Smelling is a good prospect. Definitely a Buck. He blitzes very well and makes a lot of backside tackles. I think he will be a hard pull though

Any idea which sport is his favorite or if he wants to play both?

No idea. But he takes baseball serious if he commits to Stanford before his Jr. year. Stanford's been the best team in the conference over the last 3 years by combined standings.

Heard Freeman and Jamie bring him up on Power Hour this week and after they described his film as “car crash after car crash,” I had to check it out myself. The kid is a missile and it’s insane that’s only his sophomore film.

It's going to be really interesting to see what they do at LB. Probably more good prospects than we have spots but you never know. With none in 20' and really only 1 in 21', maybe they take 4. In that case, a class of Ziegler, Cheeks, Jackson, and Snelling would be incredible. Having to turn any of those guys away seems criminal.

Also, baseball staff is making him a priority as well, per Freeman.

I heard he’s a left-handed pitcher who throws 95. If that’s legit he will get drafted.

He's drastically improved in just a short time.

If I had to guess, he's clocking those times, but he probably still needs to get placement down at those speeds.

Agreed Beau but pro scouts won't care too much about control at 18 years old if they can throw 95 from the left side. Their thought process is that they can teach control, can't teach mid 90's.

Yep. Randy Johnson was as wild as they come early in his career, but was a lefty and threw around 99 - 100. They got him figured out.

Let him play both sports and lock him in.

in his pg profile it shows him committed to stanford in the 9TH grade and got a baseball offer in 7th from arizona.. he had a verified 93mph fast ball at at pg event so it's legit....unless he has said he wants to play football, as someone posted earlier he will get drafted....kid i played against in hs had 90mph fast ball left hander...he was dominant but hittable...drafted by indians and got a million dollar + signing bonus...he did the minor leagues for a bit and never made it...still did very well for himself on that 1 contract

Snelling, who is 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds, could end up pitching his way out of college. If he becomes a top-100 MLB draft pick, a trajectory he’s currently on, it would be hard to turn down becoming a pro given the financial elements at play, which would almost certainly include a high six-figure signing bonus.

For the 2020 MLB draft, the slot allocation for the 10th pick was $4,739,900, for the 50th pick was $1,469,900, and for the 100th pick it was $581,600.

These aren't hard and fast like the NFL draft but you only see a handful of significant deviations in a year.

FanGraphs ranked Snelling the 16th best high school pitcher in his class. In the last MLB draft the 16th selected high school pitcher was 128th overall. That slot value was $442,900.

If this kid leaves the PAC, he's a maroon.

IF IF IF he goes to college, how could you pass on Stanford as a baseball first player?

That's why I never mention him in the LB talk. It makes zero sense to do so.

Even if he switched things up and chose a different school to play both football and baseball, it would be shocking if he chose a cold weather school to play baseball.

I don't think it matters nearly as much for a pitcher as it does for a position player.
