Denbrock offered and had him in for an OV while at Cincy but Ty picked Arkansas over UC instead.

Denbrock must have a LOT of "character confidence" in this player. He got kicked off Arkansas for telling the coach he didn't want to play in a certain game. He also (pretty openly it seems) was unhappy with his general playing time. (Sorry for previous now-edited error --- misread a news clip/tweet.)

When you read the news pieces, you can see how each part of this might be "OK", but also some of it might not be --- that's why I said Denbrock must have BIG character confidence here.

Character notwithstanding he’s a pretty low rated guy out of high school who didn’t do much at Ark before he got booted. Not sure what the coaches are seeing here.

From ISD’s write-up on Ty, if anyone didn’t read it -

“On the 4th-and-5 Podcast, Washington explained that he found out his grandmother was going to hospice before the Mississippi State game and told the Arkansas staff he wasn’t in the frame of mind to play when they asked him to go in during the fourth quarter.”

Seems understandable to me. Some Arkansas fans were saying there had had been a few prior incidents before this too though fwiw. Either way, I trust Freeman and the staff to take a chance on him.

Know a recent UofA grad who has been teaching there post-grad. Had Washington in his class. Acknowledged what he heard about him but said his personal interaction revealed a good kid w/ a great attitude. Hopefully that’s who shows up at ND

Nature vs Nurture fellas.

I’m willing to bet a lot of these young men receive a much better opportunity for nurturing at ND than they do at their large, state institutions.

He’s a depth piece that brings some receiving ability. That’s what this addition should be viewed as.

Losing a few TEs this off-season and the room only has four scholarship bodies going into next year. Denbrock used a lot more 12 personnel than we all thought, and he recognized the need for another P4 caliber player.

Prister seems to be high on this kid. I don’t see it but hoping he can make a positive impact.

Doesn't need to be great to be an asset. We need bodies at the position. Fingers crossed we stay healthy but if something happens to Eli this room becomes a huge question mark
