“I want to take unofficial trips to Arizona and Arizona State and official trips to Notre Dame and Michigan,” Kirkwood said. “I like both Arizona schools and looking forward to getting out there and seeing the campus and meeting all the coaches.

He got a solid bump from 247 recently but I think is still too low. Therefore the rankings won’t justify this but he’s a guy I’d like to see them recruit til the end, regardless of numbers. He’s got enough upside to always be a take, IMO.

But then he goes and does this and I feel like it’s McGregor all over again.

The 5 star challenge is kind of ridiculous because they seem to predetermine some invites but not others. IMO, they should give those invites out in advance and then leave some open at every camp for ‘open’ invitations.

This had been all SC since Williams came to LA but the local network guys started chirping ASU was going to get him becuz they promised him CB only on D and would be open to letting him go both ways. I still think he's a natural at FS and ASU needs this level of player since they lost the Kyle Hamilton of the West... Isaiah Palo-Mao to SC.

Everything he posted for a long time was all USC and he mentioned them as his dream school in every interview he could and yet got an offer but never went. And apparently ND could’ve had a 4* 6’2”+ DB??? Something doesn’t add up as to why ND didn’t push for him. Maybe a decommit candidate? Maybe ND didn’t like him that much? Seems weird cause he’s projected at CB/S/Rover depending on his body changes in the coming years. Some of the recruitments with ND are odd (not a books thing btw with the Ivy League offers).

Given the times, it's certainly a possibility he flips, but I'm not getting the same vibe. Given there can be no visits, the recruiters that are a combination of car salesman, carnival huckster and telemarketer are the ones to worry about. Those that need to be face to face to sell are not going to fare as well.

IMHO this is mental gymnastics. I can see your point re: Kirkwood being a decommit candidate, especially given that he very recently made it seem like he was going to slow down and take visits. But the staff just accepted a commitment from a similar kind of decommitment risk, so if we passed, it was for other reasons.

Riley was a done deal to VT and within days or even possibly hours switched to ND having never stepped foot on campus.

Kirkwood is a guy I think the staff should've made a move for. Already visited and seems like a fit. He just wanted to decide earlier than the staff was prepared to accept his commitment or 'push' for it, which might be the right way to put it. Posted some thoughts on that in another thread.

That's not my point. You and NDMIA were speculating that they passed on Kirkwood because he was a decommit risk, when I'm saying that they must have passed for other reasons because otherwise they would have never accepted Riley's commitment. I'm not saying Riley will flip but there's a reason we used to require a visit first, plus he fits the 'flavor of the month' jab you aimed at Kirkwood.
