Did the Satele kid ever visit back in early June? I saw he ultimately committed to Oregon, but could he be a flip candidate at LB?

No he didn't visit. I don't see him as a flip candidate for that reason and several others too. First, I don't think Oregon is going to self-destruct this season and will probably be a highly-seeded CFP team. Also, it was weird to me that we were even in consideration to begin with. We were kinda the outlier in his top 4 teams. Who was the last highly rated recruit we pulled from Hawaii? Te'o? They tend to stay on the west coast.

The list of guys who had OV's to ND planned but never made it are:

Salete 97 rated LB
Markus Fakatou 5*
Kaden Henderson 5*
Osani Gayles 97 rated WR
Andre Hippolite 5* safety talent - ISD compared him to Kyle Hamilton

Pretty major loss to never get to OV since we were in top 3 at worst for all of these players. The last visit strategy needs to be reexamined IMO.

2 off the top of my head were Jordan Botelho and Myron Tagalovoa-Amosa?

this assumes not only did ND choose to have visits after other teams - something I don’t believe you can confirm - but also some of these were even remotely likely to be ND - they weren’t in cases like Hypolitte and Satele.

Last year and this year are our two best recruiting classes. Basically ever.

I think whatever strategy they are using is working

We just won’t compete with A&M financially or anyone else willing to spend at that level.

These kids have to buy into the ND for life sales pitch.. and it’s a good one.. proven by the past two classes & tons of alum that ever never made it to the NFL or had average length careers & have a lot of life left to figure out.

The staff does a great job running the numbers for the kids & giving them the full picture.. Maybe you make the NFL.. maybe you get that second contract but best case scenario you’re likely out on your own by mid to late 30s with hopefully 50 years of life to live.

They make them think of the other two thirds of their life & how the ND network will benefit them.

The biggest issue Martin said he runs into are “handlers” and family members that only see dollar signs.. A lot of them try to negotiate & act as agents with no license/experience & just want the biggest dollar amount.. and even ask for upfront money on the spot etc

Those families are going to push kids to places like A&M that are just writing blank checks for a natty.

Either way our pool of candidates is clearly large & talented enough to pull from.

Hate to do this but one has to wonder if we moved the official season up a week instead of taking the first week off if we could've gotten everyone that was scheduled to visit on campus

Jones Jr- ND
Greedy James: Probably sticking with Texas

Sources are increasingly confident about Simien

Likes ND for Henderson more and more
What’s so crazy about recruiting is that an update from yesterday morning sounded so good and a few hours later we started hearing Henderson to A&M

I don’t know that I agree with your first statement. This year we’re in the top 5 at least. We’ve been competing head to head against all of the big spenders and in many cases are the top offer. That doesn’t mean we’ll win them all. But we’re getting our share, enough that other fan bases are wondering where we get our money from.

Yea we’re definitely competitive, there’s no denying that.. but I know for a fact they go into the recruiting process especially with these 5* studs with the message that they likely won’t be the highest bidder & sell the ND life after football.

Roster retaining is important to them as ND culture is a big part of the success here so they spend a lot there too.

Ultimately, ND is likely to land more 5 Star talents in cycle than they have in a long time, and the high end 4 Star talent behind those players is also strong, giving ND excellent depth in the class. For the record, the following players in my mind have 5 Star talent:

QB Champ Monds
RB Lathan Whisenton
OT Olu Olobubola
DE Abraham Sesay
DT Davis Folorunsho

I'd put Jones, Vaughn, and Hasan up there too.

With who we seem to be fading with, we will have some money to spend with any risers and/or reclassified kids. Monitor lb (gray), db, te, wr, maybe even an ol

In non-Henderson news, it’s been quiet on Parks. Is he continuing with his Oregon visit?

They're all high end 4 star talent for me. I have then all ranked between 40-100, which is still fantastic. Halter and Gamble fit into that category for me as well.
Vaughn could end up back in the 5⭐ club as well he had no business going from #19 down into the 300s anyway! No top 20 player in any class isn't making the the top 150 in another class.

"Ace" Hasan is about 3-4 spots from being a composite 5⭐ and could very well play himself into the top 35, especially after showing much improved speed and quickness this Spring (Regional 100m Champ).

No, they shouldn't
I've gone back and forth on it. ND's S&C program could do wonders for his strength and help him put on the weight he desperately needs. But then he'd be missing out on a year of game action/development. Really I just want to see ND land another DB in this class and don't know who else that could be besides Evans (assuming we miss on Greedy).
