If they were able to maintain the relationship and money situation with Greathouse over all that transpired during the last season, I highly doubt they’re letting anyone walk in the portal that would be significant.

Unless the kid is truly unhappy at ND or chasing the bag, which doesn’t seem to be a characteristic of many on the team.

I see several people pencilling in Black as a starter next year. Is this based solely on him being a 5 ⭐ or has there been reports from the team saying he’s on that sort of trajectory?

Legit question.

I could see us letting some other OL guys go, we are bringing in a very talented 6 man class also I think Black and Herron are going to be pushing these older guys for playing time. Nichols, McKeough, Merrill I expect push the older guys starting next year. It wouldn't also shock me to see some of the current Freshman DB's transfer out. If everyone returns they are going to be 2nd and 3rd string, it's going to be hard for guys like Cree Thomas, Ethan Long, Brandon Logan, Blair to get consistent playing time and then you got some very talented Freshman coming in O'brien, Adams, Pouncey all capable of playing early on.
I don't see Long leaving because he played and flashed. He probably thinks he can compete. The other 3 I could see.

Are you saying you expect 3 Frosh to push to start next year??

I don't understand this either. He was behind Pescod all year and played guard when he did play. For reference, Augustine got reps at RT.

Separately, I think I'm going to view what recruits get paid to attend as a signing bonus with the actual "salary" established each offseason on merit.

I think he played left guard. Prescod went in against Miami. But if Knapp got hurt for multiple weeks, he may have been the guy to go in. If they see Black as the LT of the future, keeping the side he plays on consistent is important. Flipping to left side and right side is not always easy.

I’ll throw a log on the fire and see what smokes, would everyone be just floored by a Bryce Young transfer?

I don't buy that, but not ruling it out. Like SDIrish, I do not understand just penciling him in at LT when the staff hasn't made an intentional effort to get him reps at the position. I would have thought there was plenty of garbage time to get him action at LT. I don't really know nothin, just curious and trying to infer.

I think it's impossible that the safety room stays in tact with who we already have and with who we have coming in. Honestly, I can see one of Talich/Blair or maybe both. Long impressed mightily during Syracuse. I could see him replacing Talich in those packages

Well he’d also be the starter next season, right? That would be surprising.
He was expected to start this year, too. Consensus reports coming into the season had him on a "sky's the limit" trajectory.

Yep, that was my feeling and I'm starting to get the impression that maybe the change needs to be with the voice in the room. Hence why my heart wouldn't be broken if Washington left and went to BC. I honestly think we can do better at the DL position coaching wise.

Right. Everything else fits a name you would at least consider. His 3 star to 5 star rise gives big boom/bust potential, odd usage this year, big names coming in.
I actually expect him to grow more into his body and end up as a 3T like his father was.

IMO, if Talich has his degree, then mission accomplished and go to wherever your best opportunity to make the NFL is

It's weird. He seems to have taken the coaching well in the spring and fall camp, but then games started and it wasn't happening. He was a menace last year on ST, so you have to think it isn't a stage fright thing. But yeah, of the coaches on defense, Washington leaving would be the least problematic from finding an equal/better replacement. I don't think he's bad, just doesn't feel like the unit is getting better year-to-year.

Talich's ceiling appears to be the third safety. He may be okay with that or he may want to go somewhere and start. He only has one year left, but he still gets meaningful snaps. I don't think he enrolled early given his walk-on status coming out of high school, so he's likely not on track to graduate this May.

I don’t think Talich is not talented enough to start at a CFP level team but he doesn’t really fit NDs scheme as a starter. Could definitely start somewhere being a true box safety role. But he also was surprisingly effective in Dime packages so I would endorse holding onto him.

I could see it based on what you listed but I would bet his father would want him to get his degree, as long as he has a spot on the team, and transfer after that.
