Dunham and Ewetade already both being 240+ is huge. Wild how prepared kids come into college now. Ebenezer looked like a WR less than 2 years ago.
I'm really pleased with their weights as well. Realistically, as long as they're both playing well at these current weights they probably both have the runway to add another 5-7'ish pounds if good weight each by August. I'm talking 1-1.5lbs of fairly lean muscle mass.

Dline talent galore. Most I can ever remember for a ND team and been a fan for over 30 years. Add Traore and Tionne Gray to this impressive list also. Traore, Young, Gray, Brewu and so many other studs here. Eager to see what Dunham and Ewetade can do as true frosh. Huge year for Young to produce with young, hungry studs wanting playing time. Defense going to be great.

Mullins going the wrong way, while Young and Keeley are going the right way.

I thought they wanted Mullins to gain weight to play DT?
They do! Some of us were hoping they'd cut 10lbs off him from last year's weight and shore up the SDE position because there is a serious logjam at DT. It appears that they're sticking with their DT plan, however, so here is to hoping that can keeping adding weight in a constructive manner and ultimately makes a meaningful contribution. Maybe he has another 5lbs he can add to his frame by September, allowing him to play around 285lbs.

I wonder if the two freshmen gaining weight made them feel comfortable with the DE depth

I'm sure It didn't hurt. I still see a need for an SDE type to play heavy run downs in the roles Burnham, Tuihalamaka and Botelho played. Obviously, ND's 3 man rotation of Young, Traore and Keeley will play the majority of those snaps, but I thought there was room for one more guy in that role. While it looks like the freshman will be ready to play right away, I anticipate they'll play most of their snaps on pass downs and in sub packages.

So I think this is where I may see it differently than you. I like at Traore as the bat out of hell pass rusher. Keeley and Young are my strong side ends but could spell Traore against run heavy teams too. Thomas is my pass rush DE. Want nothing with him holding the edge. But maybe Rodney can be the second DE away from Keeley and Young. That would give us 5 DEs. Probably want one more.

II pod said one of the other scuffles was Flanagan v Sneed that took a lot to break up. Flanagan was all jacked up to be back on the field apparently.

That’s a “choose your fighter” type situation it sounds like I’m sure Sneed was glad to oblige lol

Look at this class. I don’t even know if we recruited defensive linemen
I rewatch a lot of old games, the low point was obviously 07-09 but especially 08-09 when you could see the talent on O and then you saw the D and all you can think is, this is who we’re putting out there? No disrespect to John Ryan as a guy but that is incredibly embarrassing that is who we were putting out there as a starting DE.

Lack of DLs aside, how on earth was that the #4 class in the country? I think Sam Young was the only guy who even got drafted. And that was Charlie Weis' first class when we were SO BACK.
OL was decent with Young, Olsen, and Stewart. Outside of that? Woof. Whiffed on both QB's, mediocre at RB and WR. Both TE played in the NFL but neither did anything at ND. DL and LB were atrocious. Secondary had Walls and Brown both play in the NFL, but outside of Walls' 07 season, neither really stood out.

I remember watching the Sugar Bowl against LSU and just laughing at how much bigger they were all over, but especially in the trenches.

I think our starting DT was Trevor Laws, who was generously listed at 285. And LSU had multiple 320+ guys on their OL.

2020 DL was dirty and deep. Mike Elston was a tremendous DL coach, between what he did here and at Michigan he's in the conversation of Mickens level position coaches.

Elston was a good coach, but idk about Mickens level. Mickens was basically elite at everything and now has Notre Dame considered a prime destination for DB recruits. I’m really interested to see how many Notre Dame DB’s, coached/recruited by Mickens, succeed in the NFL.
