Next weekend is unreal, but tomorrow still has some sneakily good, lowkey games:

Arizona St. @ Miss. St.
South Florida @ Florida
Illinois @ Duke
Baylor @ SMU
Kansas @ Mizzou
Ole Miss @ UK
Vandy @ VT
Boston College @ Mich. St.
Oklahoma St. @ Oregon

I am probably only interested in seeing Angeli but I think Syracuse play too early for me.

Arkansas playing Arkansas State for the first time in my lifetime. They’ve avoided it for decades b/c of the irrational fear of losing recruits or their identity as the state school. They’re playing in Little Rock which is really a neutral site. It used to be UA other home stadium but they‘ve slowly transitioned all games to F’ville other than directional schools opponents. I get it. Little Rock is 3 hrs from F’ville. It’s less than 2 hrs from Arkansas St. I think ASU can give them a good game but Arkansas should win this & Hog fans will be able to breathe a sigh of relief.

Since you’re from Arkansas, I’m wondering what are some good drinking establishments in Fayetteville when I head there for the ND game. Want to pick up the local vibe. Thanks in advance.

The irrationality of which is underscored by the fact that the best athlete in the history of the state didn't go to either school, yet nobody is worried about losing recruits to Central Arkansas. In any sport.

Obviously, defer to IrishDodger, but I’ve been up there a fair amount for games and fly fishing trips. Dickson Street is where you’ll predominately want to be. It has plenty of great restaurants and bars. Walk west on it and it’ll run you right through their campus and to the stadium.

Looking at pictures from my last visit there:

- The Piano Bar (but was very crowded)
- Feral’s (sports bar)
- Dickson St Pub (next door to Feral’s)
- Atlas (restaurant)
- The Vault (cocktail bar)
- West Mountain Brewing Co

Enjoy! Arkansas catches a lot of flack, but the Northwestern portion of the state is incredible. Fayetteville is a great college town…very scenic. And, while it’s not huge, Arkansas really has a nice stadium. Fans are very passionate and welcoming in Fayetteville as opposed to the times LSU has played them in Little Rock (night and day difference, there). If you have some extra time and you’re into mountain biking, check out the trails. The White River is phenomenal fly fishing. Eureka Springs is also a really neat, small, eclectic town about 45 min or so away.

What a boring weekend of matchups. Who the hell is Grambling state? Guess I can actually get yardwork done today and at least make the wife happy.

Thursday through Saturday I schedule out my games to know what’s on I would prefer to watch as my day goes on. Being a non ND weekend, here is this weekend:

Eastern Zone
Iowa - Iowa St - Fox at noon
Baylor - SMU - CW at noon
KS - MIZZOU - ESPN2 at 3:30
Mich - OK - ABC at 7:30

Since Stanford is so bad, I’ll catch up on sleep tonight instead of the late night slot.

I can’t add much to this. Can’t go wrong w/ Dickson St. The area is referred to as Northwest Arkansas (NWA) because of the string of towns from Fayetteville to Springdale to Rogers to Bentonville. Honestly, I’m up there for work & that’s about it so Fork is a better source for the fun stuff. In addition to the mountain biking & Eureka Springs, I would add Crystal Bridges museum. Believe it or not, it’s one of the top 10 museums in the world (much to the dismay of the cultural elites) & it’s free.

I assume you’re referring to Scottie Pippen. He was not known as the best athlete in the history of the state coming out of Hamburg HS. He wasn’t even offered a basketball scholarship. IIRC, he was given a role as a team manager by UCA’s basketball coach as a favor to Pippen’s HS coach. Then he had a growth spurt & the rest is history. In hindsight, he’s definitely one of the best athletes in Ark history but it’s so hard to compare/contrast across sports & eras. Two guys that jump out are Don Hutson & Matt Jones. Hutson was a HOF football player who played at Bama & then for Curly Lambeau (ND alum) & the Packers. Matt Jones played football & basketball at Arkansas. Helluva HS sprinter, too. Was their QB but drafted in the 1st round as WR. Popped positive for coke & never went back to the league. Saved most of his money so he just does sports talk radio here in Arkansas.

Looks like Arkansas vs Arkansas State can only be seen on ESPN+. Anybody know of a way to view it otherwise?

This Duke crowd is crazy. It’s like 70% full

Top 15 opponent after a good Year 1 and you can’t sell out? Are they just still tailgating?
