I want to remind the doom and gloomers... ND has won 13 games and counting this year with below average passing and receiving production. Despite this, ND had one the highest scoring differentials in P4. We return all of our offensive line and our top 3 rbs. But keep harping on WRs and DTs not meeting your unrealistic expectations.
That’s all great (honestly, it is). But imagine if we improved those units?
- We’d be OSU tier talent but with better coaching.
- We’d be favored against Penn State by 7-12 points instead of basically a pick ‘em.
- We would have greater capability to come back in games if we find ourselves down. What happens if Penn State or OSU/Texas take a 14+ pt lead on us mid-late game? I know this is a tired argument and we’ve avoided this so far, but it will eventually happen.
And none of this “if my grandma had wheels she would have been a bike”. It should be feasible to improve these units with the season we’re having. We have narrowed the gap talent-wise on the roster and it’s fair to try to find what’s lagging behind. Del really set us back and we’re still coming back from it.
No doom and gloom, love where we’re at, but I do believe those units (def WR, less DT) are the missing pieces.
Either way let’s beat the breaks off of Penn State tonight.
