Re: linemen generally. Bulk isn't necessarily a great thing.

Watch for the strength component at the split second after engagement.

Who gets bent back, and who maintains attack position.

Zack Martin doesn't bend back. Q Nelson doesn't bend back.
I don't think Charles Jagusah bends back. Lambert? I'll wait and see.

I get that, but also...

Wagner 6'6" 293
Schrauth 6'4" 302
Craig 6'5" 312
Jagusah 6'7" 320
Lambert 6'7" 334

According to ISD, first team OL was:

Prescod
Absher
Otting (not present in team drills but first to hit sled with the centers)
Jagusah
Lambert

Also mentioned Lambert's size and how he makes Jagusah (not a small guy) look like an underclassmen.

Outside LT, I would feel comfortable playing a game with this. And it only has 2 (maybe 1) projected starter

So basically we have two starting right tackles but no starting left tackles?

Technically:

1: (Knapp) - (Schrauth) - (Craig) - X - (Wagner)
2: Prescod - Absher - Otting - Jagusah - Lambert
3. (Black)….

The Knapp move or not to move trickles everything else down. If he’s not a OG, as it seems, it means he’s gonna compete for LT or C.

All talk about our OLine is pretty meaningless without Craig, Schrauth, and Wagner around to sift in.

What we're seeing, in my opinion, is the OLine coach taking the opportunity to see what he's got outside the normal known quantities.

The only thing I'm really taking from these early makeshift line-ups is the positioning of Jagusah.

Him at RG is saying that the coach sees Schrauth definitely at LEFT guard, if some combination of tackles makes Charles to guard the best choice to get the best five on the field. (otherwise he would be practicing at LG right now.) I also think that this means that the staff is not seeing Abshur as a likely starter.

Now, if Craig holds off competition (as he might well), AND Wagner remains at RT (as I'm guessing he will), then I'm wondering if Lambert goes to the bench and Knapp stays at LT. (or Knapp and Jagusah flip.)

But I can only BS. We don't have the chess pieces together to see who the staff will choose.

IMO, the first question is whether Lambert can prove himself as a viable starter at LT. Wagner, Shrauth, Knapp, and Jagusah will all start. If Lambert has real potential to start as well at LT, then Rudolph has the flexibility to experiment with Knapp and Jagusah inside.

The thing I don't get, is if they looked at Lambert as a LT, they'd have practiced him there last year and this spring. Every indication I've seen is that's not happening. Same with Wagner, he's not moving to the left either. They have Jagusah practicing inside which is probably his best position.

I appreciate everything Knapp did in a tough spot, but he's not the answer at LT. If Black was here for spring, maybe, but he's not.

I think it's most likely Knapp sits this year and becomes our next starting C.

Again, who plays LT?

- Lambert was a true freshman and did not enroll early. I wouldn't read too much into him not getting LT looks last year (just like you aren't reading too much into Black). Remember that Wagner, as a Junior, was a big question mark until he was our most consistent starter.
- Jagusah is a perfectly good LT, even if his floor is higher inside.
- I can't imagine Knapp agreeing to sit a year!
- I still think Lamber or Jagusah is the most likely, but I wonder if Wagner will eventually get a look at LT?

Very possible the plan was to start Jagusah at LT and have Tosh be the backup. Jagusah went down, they put Knapp into complete at LT because he was an early enrollee and could provide depth. But perhaps Tosh was so bad, that Knapp emerged. Lambert also played RT in HS. Meaning the transition for year 1 was for him to play RT

Stumbled into this thread on a filthy Miami board.

OP's nephew is a walk on converted team manager at ND and he shared some info I thought was interesting, including the post below.

Don't want to derail a thread, but I'm not the only one in favor of teams having spring scrimmages against other teams. As of note this week:

Coach Prime
Joey Maguire
Mike Gundy

I see it as a win win for everyone. Hope it happens soon.
