I am speaking of currently. Not what the have done in the past. We are currenlty sitting with two good tackles and nothing in between if Patterson gets hurt again.
Again, that isn't a development issue. It's a recruiting issue. We are limited in options inside because we didn't recruit OL well in 18, 19 and 20.

Correll, Carroll, Kristofic, Olmstead all 185 or better on 247 2019

Baker, Carmody 146 or better on 247 2020

Fisher, Spindler, Johnson, Alt Fish/Spindler 55/60 Johnson 323 and Alt 408 2021

Wagner, Schrauth, Tanona,Chan,Craig by rating is better than the 2021 class. Other than size not better ranking for 2020. So this class is out saving grace.

By ratings the worst rated is playing the best. There was talent there. Although the 2018 class terrible. And this class is on Harry.

And by rating we are taking a class of offensive lineman that is worse than all those years in 2023.

And Carroll, Olmstead, and Tanona are no longer on the team. So when does this get better?

Speaking of the '23 recruiting class: Is there any movement on any QBs? We're more than a week out from the end of the dead period, with a couple home games coming up. One might think we'd have someone lined up to visit? Unless we're all in on Carr reclassifying...
I'd be stunned if Tommy didn't have all his eggs in the Carr reclassifying basket. He'll be in the class.

Let's hope
I hope not. I want him in the 2024 class to help recruit for the class, something we missed this year by not having Dante. Next year's class has the chance to be better than the 2023 class and I'd prefer the stud QB reeling in as many players as possible.

OL is generally one of the toughest positions to project in recruiting.

And you laid it out. It's about numbers. More numbers means more competition.

2018, 2019 and 2020, you had a total of 9 players committed. So there's far less competition and less margin for error in terms of evaluation. Then you had Mabry and Dirksen fall out from 2018, Olmstead and Carroll fall out from 2019, and Carmody has dealt with injuries for much of his career. So you're now down to 5 players left in your Junior, Senior and 5th year class for the OL. Those are absolutely dreadful numbers.

Meanwhile, ND took 15 players (14 without Tanona) in '21, '22 and '23. That means there's more competition and more margin for error, because guys will have to step their game up to beat out their classmates. That isn't the case in the 3 upper classes.

I could see the reclassify decision either way. There are advantages/disadvantages to both.

I do think all involved need to decide one way or the other though, as it seems to be freezing the recruiting of other QBs in both classes.

It depends on what our other option is for ‘23. As it stands now, I hope he reclassifies. Striking out this year would put our already thin QB room farther behind.

OL shouldn't be in issue I think they just need to find the right guy to play center. OTT and FISHER were studs at Tackle last year so we know they aren't the issue.

Striking out entirely would be such a bad idea I can’t conceive they’d let it happen. The ‘23 class will include a QB on Signing Day. I just think the longer we go without knowing if that QB is Carr, the lesser the QB we wind up with if it isn’t Carr.

IOW, we can always snag some three-star late but if Carr was clearly a ‘24, would, say, Minchey or Avery Johnson be scheduling a visit by now?

Striking out is getting an average talent recruit. This was a year for an elite guy. Can’t keep kicking the can down the road

Might be a tough, but necessary, lesson for Tommy to learn. Don't put all of your eggs in one basket and be strung along for months, especially if you were in good/decent position with other highly ranked QB's.

I think that'll be tough at this point with Carr coming in behind. Maybe Klubnick sets Clemson on fire and we can take another shot at Vizzina? If not him I'd be happy with Minchey or Johnson, personally.
But given the lack of movement on those two, right now it feels like our best bet for an "above-average" QB in '23 is Carr, and then set our sites anew on top '24s.

I’d be happy with Minchey, but not Johnson.

I think if it's not Carr, it will be a major disappointment low 3 star that is short and has as weak arm.

Right? Why would you want a projectable QB who is an insane athlete? One who could move to Safety or WR if QB doesn't work out.
Why would you want a guy who has a good/plus arm (needs some coaching) and runs like the wind?

Only a fool would take a QB like that

I’d be extremely surprised if we end up with Love today. I’ll be surprised if we finish with the current list of commitments. Just sad how far you can fall so quickly.

He'd be a sucker to go here. A&M has a better offense and he can get paid.

Full rebuild ahead, imo the whole class falls apart. The moment was too big for Freeman, even a 17 year old can see that. Bummer

Fire Rees, promote Chansi as interim, and try to formulate enough of an offensive identity to salvage the season and the recruiting.

What's hilarious is that Jack begged Rees to stay and demanded Freeman keep him.

I think we are back to the Davie, Ty, and Weis years for awhile. You can't making coaching mistakes and unfortunately, we have made 4 out of 5.
