Angeli is a better prospect than many on here are willing to give him credit for.

I think Allar has the higher ceiling, but I see Angeli as a good all-around QB. As in he doesn't really have a lacking quality in his game. He's just good at everything.

Not an ultra high ceiling, but it's better than Book or Pyne, where the limitations were very much apparent.

In Sr film/production vs Sr film/production, I'd have Book over Angeli. With all the "records" Book produced at ND, I don't think he lived up to what I felt was his ceiling as a prospect during his Sr season

I have no problem with Angeli as a take. I think Angeli is the prospect you want in 1 or 2 of your 6 QB scholarships in a 4 year period. The rest I want 4 elite guys and one Avery Johnson / obvious elite athlete.

Bottom line is, if you take an Allar... or Kiel/Jurkovec every cycle, one will hit.

All that said, Tommy would've been best served by not overthinking it and taking Brady Allen's commitment 2 years ago. I think On3 got it right by putting him in the Top 5 QB's and Top 40 in the class. His Sr film screams prototype 6-5 early NFL draft pick.

Just a very impressive group of young men. Extremely excited for this class. A lot of wins in ND’s future.

Weird, I'd have Angeli over Book.

Have to keep in mind that Book's competition was nowhere close to Angeli's. Angeli pretty much showed better in nearly every aspect, minus Book's mobility and Angeli isn't a slouch in that regard.

Angeli will surpass the expectations of many on this board. Lucky Lefty often describe the prototypical Rees QB and Angeli fits the description better than any other in the QB room. He’s a competitor, pocket passer first with the ability to escape or slide in either direction and delivery a great pass off various platforms. Angeli also displayed a noticeable increase in development from year to year. And most importantly, he appears to be a great kid and teammate.

If anything, ND should've offered them both early and taken them both. Angeli is the perfect developmental prospect, 6'2-6'3 as a HS Sr, good arm, could develop into a great arm with 2+ years under Balis and familiarizing himself with the ND offense. Would've been a perfect pair with Allar, who has a long way to go still in being developed as a QB. If you change nothing else about this class, but you add Allar (Or Klubnik, or Simpson, or Howard cries), changes the entire outlook of this class.

I'd have liked to take both, but I get the indication that if Allar took off the way he did, he'd probably have opened things up and gone somewhere else, where he was THE guy.

Recruiting QB is tricky, and these guys know the reps are slim pickings as is. It's especially difficult because ND took 2 the year prior, and it wouldn't surprise me if they took 2 in '23.

Why? He committed to and stuck with Penn State, who had a 2nd QB in their 22 class, Beau Pribula.

...or add Allen at the beginning and keep shopping.

The answer to '22 QB recruiting always begins with wrapping up Allen in 2019.

Kind of wild to think about, right? If we just landed the QB in the '22 class, that Rees spent the most time with in 2019, you and I would be a lot happier. Probably most.

He spent a lot of time recruiting Allen in 2019 to ultimately not want him. Same goes for the 2 or 3 other '22's that he was recruiting at that time that visited multiple times. Those guys turned out to be complete wastes of time. 2019 was just a total failure for Tommy as far as building out his future board of QB's. Then we got hit with Covid and he exacerbated the problem even further.

It seems like a lot of Rees's QB recruiting has been zigging when he should have zagged or vice versa.

And, now I'm worried the same could be happening in '23 and '24.

The impression that I was left with was that Tommy was spending an inordinate amount of time over-analyzing the mental side of each of the recruits. Maybe that's good and bad. It's like either Lax or Bobby said, you recruit the top guns as much as you can and over a 4 year period, one or two will hit.

Yeah, but if you have a gimme of Allen's level going into his Soph year, you take him then. If he doesn't hold serve in his development or better options surface down the line, he fades away like Crippen that = No harm, no foul. I just don't understand why he's not getting this still in '23. He at least got on some elite guys from the drop BUT he still should've taken Avery Johnson IF in fact, he would've committed as the sites say he would've. If Dante Moore wants in, he's not going to be afraid of AJ and if AJ sticks, he either competes at QB or pulls an Avery Davis and uses his athleticism at another position... or transfers.

IMO, most highly recruited QBs are going to go portal hopping after year 1 if they don't play. The only way to get them to wait their turn is NIL. Exception is Quinn Ewers.

This I agree with. Though I think he has a great quick release of the ball. If you surround Angeli with OSU or Bama talent he can win you a championship IMO.
