Have to say that Jones being great 1/3 of the time is a joke. Great comes from consistency. Great comes on every play. Great comes from overshadowing other good players on the team. I agree that Jones has shown flashes, but a flash is only a glimpse of what could be. Day, on the other hand, has shown consistently good to great production. At this time, nobody is great on the Dline. There are good + players such as Day. Actually, only Day. MO here, but I believe it's solid.

I have to agree. We need more consistency from the d line. I want to see a lot more sacks this year

Couple of points :

All the guys mentioned previously, other than true freshmen, [PM, DC]), have played under two DC's with entirely different defensive philosophies. Especially pertinent when it comes to d-line play. Three man, two gap, plays parallel to the line of scrimmage, four man over, under, or any damned thing has at least half of the linemen with a gap responsibility, and the need to get upfield fast. Did I get that right?

So when it comes to critiquing anyone's consistency, from Ishaq Williams (it wasn't just the linebacker position, it was two gapping and other intricacies on DE play on the stagnant fronts of Diaco's defenses whether three or four man fronts.)

Those same kind of issues (learning and unlearning) have plagued Jones and Rochell to some degree or another.

And I still don't see how you compare a three gap tackle who plays up or down the line of scrimmage, to a one gap tackle that shoots the gap and gets up field. Help me fellas!

Notre Dame returned to the practice field on Wednesday after a weeklong break for Easter.
Wet conditions in the morning kept the Irish inside the Loftus Sports Center for the start of practice.
The offense lined up for it's skeleton tempo drill to start practice with Malik Zaire taking the first snaps at quarterback.
The rest of the first offense included running backs Tarean Folston and Greg Bryant (rotating), offensive linemen (left to right) Ronnie Stanley, Alex Bars, Nick Martin, Steve Elmer and Mike McGlinchey, tight end Durham Smythe and wide receivers Will Fuller, Chris Brown and Amir Carlisle.
The second offensive unit lined up as follows: quarterback Everett Golson, running back C.J. Prosise, offensive linemen Hunter Bivin, Quenton Nelson, Sam Mustipher, John Montelus and Mark Harrell, tight end Tyler Luatua and wide receivers Justin Brent, Corey Holmes and Torii Hunter Jr.
The defense did a conditioning drill to start practice and didn't line up as a complete unit during the media viewing.
Defensive end Jonathan Bonner was the only new player added to the injury report. He watched practice with a walking boot on his right foot. Wide receiver Corey Robinson and defensive end Andrew Trumbetti were dressed for practice after being sidelined earlier this spring.
Former Irish quarterback Joe Theismann attended Wednesday's practice and was seen talking with members of the Notre Dame staff.
