My predictions. Not so great today! Oh well, hope I get the Irish right 
. Man, Hopkins looked like a high school team out there today. Princeton poles just look lost in space out there. Reminds me of the Mike Tyson saying about everyone having a plan until they get punched in the mouth. What say you about UVA lax? Potential sleeper getting hot at right time?

Welp, another 1-13 season. I honestly think they were better their first year than this year.
Hopefully Dave Brandon tones down the schedule next year. I'm tired of these automatic losses. It does nothing for the confidence of these young guys. I want to see Mercer, Furman, BU, Marquette etc.
If Marquette was a game this year instead of a scrimmage, Michigan would have had 2 wins on the year. That's what makes no sense to me. Loyola is leaving the ECAC next year so Michigan only has one automatic L on next years slate as of now.
Michigan Football didn't just jump right in and start playing the powers at the time in Princeton, Rutgers etc. They played Toronto, Racine and local teams to build.

Worst ND loss I've seen in.... 3 years? 4?
ND imposed their will in the first half but the second half was a completely different story. Beating Syracuse is simple: don't give up assisted goals, win faceoffs, dominate possession. We did none of those things. When you let Syracuse play in rhythm they are a lot like UNC and completely unstoppable.
Also, offensive execution = laughably bad. I hope the Conor Doyel injury isn't serious because he is a necessary creator on O against teams that want to extend pressure D. Scioscia is not ball handler like he is. And our ride/clear continues to be problematic at key times.
Next Thursday will be interesting. Probably another L. Just a really bad matchup for our team and their talents... when their outside shooters are clicking they will dice you up with "bad" shots.

Wow, that offense was just totally pitiful. They looked totally lost out there. I think ND really missed O'Connor and Doyel today. Like you said, hopefully Doyel is okay. I can never find any injury updates with LAX.
Maybe, just maybe this loos will be good for ND. I would have hated to see them be ranked number one and then fizzle out in the tournament like some of ND's other sports have done. Either way, their O needs to figure some things out in the next couple of weeks!

Yeah, ND lacrosse never releases injury info. They're very Bill Belichikian in that regard. For instance, Pat Cotter got hurt pre-season and was going to be out the whole season... and there wasn't a single peep on it from any media outlet.
I just rewatched the second half Syracuse vs. ND and I'm sorry to say it but the book is out on how to attack ND's defense. I won't get into elaborate detail here but unless we can clean up how we're going to defend players behind the goal and on the wings in the next 3-4 days expect another beatdown from Syracuse on Thursday. They basically ran what St. John's did in the second half and slide packages/off-ball defense was atrocious.
On O... not enough people that can beat their man. Kavanagh blew about 5 or 6 really good scoring chances that he had... but hard to lay it at his feet when he was the only player who could consistently create offense. It's no coincidence that all 4 goals were unassisted and all by the best 1v1 players on the team. It's time to cut the BS and stack the midfield lines. Need to run a loaded first line with Hopkins/Kimball/Foley/Marlatt letting 1 of the 4 sit every couple shifts to keep them fresh enough and hope for the best. Spell them occasionally with a 2s line of Murphy/Corrigan/Ossello/whoever and let the attack initiate when they're on the field. Right now... it's a joke. Teams just lock off Marlatt with a pole... don't worry about sliding to Corrigan... and then Foley is literally the only midfielder in play to create and he has been having a really rough year shooting the ball.

I was surprised at how many free hand open looks shots Cuse was able to get off. Like you said Lax, the coverage behind the cage is weak. Switching off picks seemed to not be working so hot yesterday for the defense. Seemed a bit slow on the second slides, or just completely lost. Syracuse is and pretty much always has been able to break you sown with quick, extra passes.
Also agree with the inability to break people down 1 on1. Kavanaugh is the only guy with any real shake to him. Maybe just a bad day, but no one was getting a step on anyone yesterday. Clearing wasn't great again, was hoping for a better overall performance yesterday this close to playoffs. Does Byrne have a zone package to switch into every now and again? Kemp eats up a lot of the outside stuff, but I don't know if its an option.

I woke up this morning still feeling annoyed by Notre Dame's performance on Saturday. I really hope Coach Corrigan takes some big measures, like you have mentioned, to get this offense moving.

I literally had never watched a lacrosse game even on TV until last year in the tourney, and this year was my first time really watching a game and being into it.
So when a novice like me can spot that you don't have any playmakers and your offense kinda sucks, then there's a problem. I've been to 3 games, and I can count on my hands how many times I saw a ND player beat someone one v one, but I've seen other teams do it quite a bit, so obviously it is an important role in the game.
Disappointing...I'm hoping we can make a run at this thing; is that out of the question?

Penn State and UMASS all knotted up heading into the 4th in the first semifinal of the CAA tournament with HUGE implications for bubble teams. If Penn State doesn't win the AQ from the CAA then a really good team is going to get left out in the cold.

It all matters. ND is a tournament lock but seeding is done largely on signature wins and RPI. Penn State, UNC, Denver, etc. winning games helps us get a good seed.

No idea on this one. Really depends on the adjustments each team makes. Personnel still an awful matchup for ND's strengths. As a masocist I will be tuning in at 4:30.

D adjustments good so far... leaving man behind the goal free to ensure tight D on backside and on the crease. The issue is if the ball gets moved to him quickly the D is hung up... we'll see how Syracuse attacks this.
O is still terrible as no one can beat their man. The O simply doesn't work unless you can draw a slide to get defense rotating. We'll see if it gets better in Q2. 2-1 Cuse at the break.

ND holds Syracuse scoreless for nearly 20 minutes and then we blow the most wide open 4-3 fast break ever. And then Syracuse scores on a fast break of their own and then we can't win faceoffs and next thing you know Syracuse has 3 straight goals in about 2 minutes and leads 5-2 going into half.
Possession time is terrible and Cuse is getting better at attacking from behind the goal. Trending towards another blowout.

VERY disappointing way to end the season...Just not enough offensive weapons. I was definitely a Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde as I watched this..."You suck...We're going to be okay and take over in the real tournament.....What the crap was that....We'll settle in and take advantage of those situations in the tournament...
Bottom line, I am not feeling good about their chances in the tournament and I don't think I can talk myself into now either.

Yeah everything is ****ed. The book is out apparently on how to defend Marlatt and without him providing scoring the O is a joke. Kinda shocked at just how Syracuse shut us down. I expected it to be rough but 3 to 4 goals? Jesus.
Is it me or was ND just too timid on O both games against Syracuse? There were times where I thought their offense shot too quickly and too far out this year but at least they were being aggressive with taking shots. I still just didn't sense that urgency from them. It was like they just wanted to hold on to the ball a little longer to give their D a break...I don't know. I know I am frustrated and it's going to take me the full 9-10 days to get the positive vibes going for them again. What peaves me off the most is we were going to go to Philly on Saturday to watch them win the BE championship. Now they just totally ruined our plans.

Ohio State just went full on Syracuse on Loyola in the 4th quarter. Out scored them 8-0 en route to a 18-11 victory. Shocking upset and all but guarantees that Ohio State will be ND's first round opponent for travel reasons. Loyola all of a sudden moves to the bubble.

Towson beats Penn State. Wow. Sucks for our resume (Penn State first round game?) but sucks more for bubble teams... either Duke or Loyola is likely getting left out in the cold... and Bucknell, Yale, Penn are all on incredibly thin ice too.
It has been a crazy year hasn't it... Surely Duke isn't going to be left out?
I don't want PSU again. They have been on a roll and are playing pretty well. Also, ND has had some tough draws with them the last couple of years.

3-9 Detroit beats 10-3 Marist in MAAC semis... meaning a team with at least 8 losses will make the tourney if Siena holds on. If Detroit miracles their way into the tourney that might be the first round opponent for ND which would be so awesome.
Princeton beats Cornell in OT making it very unlikely that the Big Red would be seeded ahead of ND now. You're probably staring down a #4 seed if you're the Irish behind Syracuse, UNC, and Denver if everyone holds serve. If Denver loses to Ohio State and Syracuse loses to Villanova we might actually back in to the #1 seed. That would make me giggle like a school girl. The top 2 seeds get easy first round games while everyone else gets a legit contender.
Ideally, ND gets paired up with Denver in some fashion in the tournament and we get Detroit in the first round for travel reasons. Denver is the most overrated team in the country by far as things currently stand.

THANKS for all the information LAX. I just saw that Cornell lost and figured that had to help ND a little bit. I like how Princeton came back after just getting whipped by them last week. It still concerns me that ND wasn't able to do that, or at least keep it close. What are your thoughts on Coach Corrigan????????
It seems like every game is changing the seeding with all the upsets. This is the first year I have really gotten into the seeding like I have been trying to do and your speculations are quite helpful. If nothing else, all these upsets have me thinking why can't ND take it all....or at least win a couple games.....
