Just came out with the news:

The Heisman Trophy Trust is a charitable entity whose mission is to ensure the continuation and integrity of the Heisman Trophy; to foster a sense of community responsibility; and to help service the disadvantaged and afflicted youth of our country.

The Trustees of the Trust have been monitoring the NCAA investigation of Reggie Bush and USC since first announced. We determined that no action was necessary by the Trust unless and until the NCAA acted and issued its report. Since the issuance of the NCAA decision vacating USC’s 2005 season and declaring Reggie Bush an ineligible athlete, the Trustees have met, discussed and reviewed all information underlying this decision in an effort to exercise the due diligence and due process required of any decision regarding the awarding of the 2005 Heisman Trophy.

We are very appreciative of the respect Reggie Bush demonstrated for the Heisman Trust, the whole Heisman fraternity, and the continuing legacy of the Trophy in his public statement issued September 14, 2010. It was a difficult decision to return the Heisman Trophy and he exhibited great character in acknowledging his mistakes and accepting the consequences. We intend to explore further his offer to support jointly “an educational program which will assist student athletes and their families” to avoid the pitfalls that plagued him during his college years as this is a part of our charitable mission as well.

As a result of Reggie Bush's decision to forfeit his title as Heisman winner of 2005, the Trustees have determined that there will be no Heisman Trophy winner for the year 2005.

if reggie bush would have re-imbursed the marketer-guys that fronted him the 300K when all of this started, none of this would have happened. USC would not be branded as cheaters, USC would have another NC, Reggie Bush would be a loved favorite son of USC, and Reggie would still have his heisman.

Instead he tried to stiff the guy, and it all backfired. Let this be a lesson boys and girls, PAY YOUR BILLS!

Reggie gave up the trophy because it sounds better to have 'given back' the trophy, rather than to have it revoked.

SC would have been caught doing something anyway.. I'm stunned how the media and fans talk this "It was ONLY Reggie Bush" garbage... there was Mount Vesuvius style smoke coming from the program LONG... LONG... before Yahoo.com broke the Bush scandal...

if anything I feel bad for bush because of that... now he's the only one that gets remembered... he was not the only one... and let's get one thing straight... SC did not get hit like this b/c of the Bush thing... they got hit because of a repete (had to) offense... the school was already on proby!!!! It's the third "great era"of SC football that has ended this way!!!

It wasn't just Bush. It was SC being SC... period.

as for the Heisman... this is garbage too... if Bush didn't play (which he shouldn't have been) then who would have won it??? That's who should get it.

It's like this BS about vacated wins but not forfiting games... they all talk about punishing the current rosters of schools that get hit... well what about punishing the schools that were on the up and up that had their asses handed to them by a group of cheaters!?! They should not have to live with those loses on their records... and Vince Young should not have to think "what would have happened had Bush been rightfully ruled ineligble??"

I felt that Bush was the best player that year and deserved the Heisman. Then when i heard he had to return it i kind of wanted Young to be the default Heisman because he was so great also

But i like the vacated Heisman, that way in 30 years when p[eople ask why no Heisman in 05? people will say cuz Bush and USC cheated

i understand he cheated but c'mon he was def the best player that year... him taking money had nothing to do with his performances.. i know you have to in eligiable status to win the heisman but c'mon man he was/is the best that year.

Although I agree with that, but on the flip side like you mentioned technically he never should have been out there. It's a tough call either way in my opinion. I understand both sides of the arguement
