Freebie from Rivals
https://notredame.rivals.com/news/rivals100-cb-woodi-washington-recaps-notre-dame-visit

Notre Dame got Rivals100 cornerback Woodi Washington on campus for the first time this weekend, and the Irish left a big impression.

“They’ll be high on my list,” Washington said of Notre Dame coming out of the visit.

So, how was Notre Dame able to leave such an impression?

Washington, the No. 6 cornerback in the class of 2019 and No. 31 overall player in the nation, said several things caught his attention over the weekend.

“It went great,” Washington said of the visit. “I got to meet the coaches and go around campus.”

Touring campus, Washington said, was an awesome experience.

“The tradition they have,” Washington said of what stood out about Notre Dame. “They have a great campus and they were telling me all about it.”

Taking the visit, Washington said, was important to him because of how much of a priority Notre Dame has made him since extending an offer.

“They want me a lot,” Washington said. “I’ve got to get to the schools that are as interested in me as I am in them. They’ve been wanting me to get up, so I did.”

While on campus, Washington spent most of his time meeting with cornerbacks coach Todd Lyght and safeties coach Terry Joseph.

“They’re both great guys,” Washington said of the pair of Irish coaches. “I talked to Coach Lyght the most when he walked me around campus.”

Washington is plenty familiar with Lyght’s resume, and said playing for a coach with that background would be huge for his development.

“It would be great if I did play there, just knowing he was a great defensive back at that school as well as a great coach,” Washington said. “He can help me with my technique and the way I play.”

Going forward, Washington does not have any additional visits planned, though he did mention he hopes to eventually return to Notre Dame.

As for a commitment, Washington said he hopes to have a decision made sometime before his senior season.

Freebie from Irish Sports Daily
https://irishsportsdaily.com/s/6166/lyght-makes-impression-on-2019-four-star-cb-woodi-washington

Notre Dame has always had its eye on 2019 Oakland (Tenn.) cornerback Woodi Washington*. The 6-foot, 175-pounder got his first look at Notre Dame on Friday afternoon.

“It went great,” Washington told Irish Sports Daily. “I also stopped by Louisville. We passed by it, so we stopped to see them too.”

Todd Lyght was a big part of the decision to visit South Bend, and the two spent some quality time together.

“I got to hang out with Coach Lyght and met some of the other coaches,” said Washington. “I got to meet Coach Lea for a little bit, but I didn’t speak with him too long because he was busy.”

Lyght’s message was straightforward and to the point.

“He told me Notre Dame wants me a lot,” stated Washington. “They want me to come back for another visit.”

Washington remains in contact with several programs, but Notre Dame’s staff is one he talks to the most.

“Notre Dame texts me every week,” Washington said. “Coach Lyght or Coach (Terry) Joseph stay in contact with me.

“Oklahoma, Ohio State, Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Virginia are recruiting me hard. There’s a lot of schools. Louisville is in there too.”

The Volunteers have a new staff and a new energy around the program. Washington admitted he has felt some pressure already to stay home for college.

“There is a strong pull to stay home and go to Tennessee,” Washington stated. “There is a little bit of momentum around them right now.”

As for future visits, Washington plans to use some of his officials in the spring but will hold on to a few for the fall so he can experience game day at a few programs.

“I think I’m going to take one of Oklahoma soon, but I’m not sure yet,” said Washington. “I’ll probably take a few this spring and save a couple for the fall.”

“I’ll probably commit right before the season. I might wait until during the season. I’m not sure yet.”

Was #4 on Barton Simmons list of "Top Five on Defense" for the Elite 11 event at Nashville
https://247sports.com/Article/Elite-11-Nashville-top-performers-117593852

4. Woodi Washington, CB, Murfreesboro (Tenn.) Oakland – Washington is a springy, high cut defender that has some natural athleticism and bounce. He’s got a who’s who offer list and he asserted himself as one of the most complete defenders in attendance on Sunday.

Woodi Washington bumped from an 89 to 90 on 247 making him a 4* on all services. Would be a great addition to the defensive backfield alongside KJ Wallace, Kyle Hamilton, and Litchfield Ajavon.

Really would love if the coaching staff would put an all out blitz on this kid cause he’s a special talent. Sounds like he speaks to Lyght and Terry Joseph. Didn’t mention BK being involved. Enjoyed his visit. Wants to make a decision before senior season. Mentioned Oklahoma, Tennessee, Louisville, Ohio State and Notre Dame recruiting him the hardest with a few other schools he couldn’t think of.

Todd Lyght into see him this week. Seems as though Loy is implying they are looking for one more CB and then calling it a day at the DB group for 2019. Obviously best available would still be around, but getting Woodi Washington would be an unreal finish to an already good DB class.

I think this is the right strategy for Woodi Washington. Use the OV this summer and cement your spot at the top of the list and maybe even getting a commitment. If he wants to bring his recruitment into the fall, then he's in driving distance to make it for a game for a third visit. I would love to add him as the final piece in the DB class.

Oklahoma - Ohio State battle it looks like. Ideally ND can get him on campus soon or maybe in the July visit period in a few weeks to make a move cause ND is on the outside looking in which is too bad cause he would be a dynamite 4th DB in the class.

Is ND close with any other CBs? Wasn't Washington too on the board. Can't see max William's leaving for ND

Max Williams, Woodi Washington, and Isaiah Rutherford. Maybe some highly ranked flip candidates later on in the cycle because ND is in a position where they don’t have to take another guy just to have bodies, they just want a really talented dude in the back end of the defense

Who was the last recruit ND landed that Kerry cooks recruited?

Who was the last recruit ND landed that Kerry cooks recruited?

Since leaving in 2015, there have been only 3 ND DB commits who were even offered by Oklahoma and they were all in last year’s class (Houston Griffith, Derrik Allen, Noah Boykin). Patrick Fields, Brendan Radley-Hiles, Robert Barnes, Tre Norwood (still has 9 ND CB’s), Parrish Cobb, Chanse Sylvie, and maybe another one or two that I didn’t find are some of the DB talent that ND wanted at some point between the 2016-2018 classes. I think it’s more demographics than anything though. I think if you combine the fact that Kerry Cooks is a dynamite recruiter, he’s the king of Texas as far as ND is concerned (he was the best Texas recruiter on staff when he was at ND), and he’s recruiting guys mostly from that region then you’re gonna fight an uphill battle against him for the Texas or Louisiana or Oklahoma recruits. Also, ND isn’t putting an enormous amount of resources into Texas like they used to. I could be totally wrong but I’m pretty sure ND has offered fewer guys from Texas this cycle in comparison to years past. They seem to be throwing out offers to the nationally big time guys in Texas and then a few smaller time guys who fit ND’s profile really well (Hunter Spears, King Doerue, Colt Ellison and others). If were just looking geographically and you pit Kerry Cooks vs. Terry Joseph & Todd Lyght for a recruit in OK, TX, KS, LA, AR, or MO then I’d give the edge to Kerry Cooks, but a guy like Woodi Washington who’s closer to ND than Oklahoma or Max Williams who’s far from Oklahoma or ND then I’d say it’s a solid matchup. Oklahoma does have a very big recruiting presence in Cali tho.

The last CB spot goes into the BPA category. I’d love to add Woodi, but a 2nd CB isn’t a necessity. So, if we could add another OL/LB/DL that’s an impact player, (in that spot) is it that big of a loss? At this point, I’m not sure I can feel that way. Love to have him, but it’s not a make or break situation.
