He’s going the wrong direction
Mitchell is pretty fast / fluid which is why I think it translates to a higher level of football but we’ll see…Seeing him struggle almost gave me pause about Kris Mitchell making an impact for us. But Mitchell has a few things going for him that Cephas didn't.
First is that Cephas didn't enroll until the summer. So he missed spring practice. Mitchell is already here.
Second is that Kent State ran a full-on Air Raid offense under Sean Lewis, which pretty much just meant Cephas was given very simple routes to run. There was going to be a pretty substantial learning curve for him going to a more traditional offense, especially since again, no spring. FIU, in contrast, ran a more traditional spread offense, so Mitchell is coming into an offense more like the one he ran at FIU. He's a more advanced route runner.
Third, Mitchell is just a bit bigger and a more dynamic big-play threat than Cephas.
