Tom Loy with an ND CB. I think what’s happening is a grayshirt or blueshirt thing. This is a guess obviously, but I think the staff inviting him up twice means they like him but they are probably saying that they have already two inside limebackers in the class with Jack Kiser and Osita Ekwonu and they can’t take 3, but they want him. Maybe with the lack of linebacker prospects in the 2020 class maybe they want Bertrand to enroll in January of 2020 after the 2019 season with a scholarship and basically if a scholly opens up during the summer (ND falls below 85) then they’d give the extra scholly to him and he goes back to the 2019 class. I hope that’s a sort of explanation for his situation because I think he’d be a good mike prospect for ND in the future!

That would be great, is this even possible?

Consider me confused how a 4 star from Georgia is having such a hard time finding a landing spot at any team. I understand him not having a spot in our small class with our roster makeup, but something is weird here.

Not really, he just really wants to be at ND. Has plenty of opportunities but is really enamored with ND. Is considering a PWO spot which I imagine will be a short term situation.

Wow, if he is actually thinking about doing that then throw him a damn scholarship.

Old news.

Can't Blue Shirt him. He's already been offered and I think they've gone into his school with him present. To Blue Shirt you can't do either of those and you can't give him an OV. (Though they can unofficial)

So K-Pyne can't Blue Shirt... but JD Betrand could... Hmmmmmm.

I’ve never heard of a consensus 4* prospect walk-on to a football team, much less consider it. Just goes to show you what a powerful draw ND has when we’re playing winning football.

That's really cool then. Can't say I can blame him if he's got the situation to take the financial hit for one year.

If we have an interested player from a Catholic school with offers from both Stanford and the top half of the SEC, that's a take every day and twice on Sunday.

What are the chances that he takes PWO, but by the time camp starts next year, he is on scholarship, due to transfer, medical or whatever else? Maybe he has to take PWO for now, with the understanding that if someone leaves he gets that scholarship, which the coaches think could happen. I am not even sure if that is allowed, but just a thought.

That’s exactly what happens at a lot of schools. You have a guy after summer workouts who leaves or gets arrested and then they move the 86th guy (not enrolled yet and grayshirting) to a scholarship and get him on campus. Basically as a staff you tell JD Bertrand and his family, he will be a scholarship athlete at ND but it might take one extra semester at maximum when more scholly’s open up. I’m not saying this is happening right now for JD but it certainly happens at other schools. Happened at Bama with Jarez Parks where he spent freshman fall semester at home lifting and then enrolled in January and practiced in bowl prep to start his career and now he’s on a full scholly. If there’s a school you really really want to go to then waiting and lifting at home for an extra 3-6 months isn’t the end of the world.

He'll probably get it after one semester. If he is a PWO I think he gets all the same benefits (lifting, training table, summer enrollment) as a scholarship athlete, just not the money. So if he is from a family that can afford the tuition for one semester, its not a bad option if he really wants to play here. Its not like we recruited over him and then dropped this on him late; he got back into the process once we already had guys in his spot and limited scholarship spots.

I thought ND was waiting to see if some medical reports came back on some players that were negative and he was a take if that happened?

i thought everything was speculation at this point.
unless there is some actual reporting coming from him, i think the talking heads and boards are just spitballing. maybe i missed something.

is there anything actually from JD or from credible sources that are not purely opinion?

Well, I don’t think it’s opinion that a PWO spot has been talked about and entertained by the Bertrand camp. It just hasn’t been decided upon, at this point.

All I've heard/read was the theory. Did Bertrand make a comment on the situation? Haven't kept up this week.

Brendon someone the FSU beat writer CB to ND. Something is brewing . . .

the guy doesn't CB often, but is 13 of 13. assuming he's very conservative. regardless, it does seem something is up. and that's awesome!

Maybe an offer? They making room?

I'm guessing, whatever the situation (PWO, or full offer), something is about ready to pop.
That's a lot of activity from some very conservative, and non-ND guys.

Hope it works out. Really like the kid. Great intangibles to go along with the talent.

Demetric Warren just dropped another one for ND. That's what, 5 tonight for ND lol... I think the masses are just jumping in the boat now. Probably need a bigger boat.

I go to church every Sunday at Blessed Trinity (St. Peter Chanel).... I'd be shocked if he doesn't end up at ND.

So it’s a very realistic possibility that Bertrand and Pyne will be on campus without scholarships? Boy we’ve come a long way. Winning cures all apparently.
