We had four guys already committed at that point, and the staff was targeting Foskey for the final spot.
I appreciate the insight as I was sorta serious and facetious. I do think it’s a good lesson, then and now, with recruiting to take an extra at spots we traditionally struggle to land (Vyper, Safety, etc).

I thought that you may have been being facetious after I posted my response. Sorry about that. That being said, and to add onto your point, it's important that ND keeps adding pass rushers whenever they can. Obviously they need to have some sort of limit, but pass rush is imperative to having a successful, attacking defense.

He's been a beast against Texas. One of those "big misses" in recruiting that has actually proven it on the field. Size, speed, and the technique to bring it all together.

Good player, no argument there. But, Is it really a “big miss” if we landed a similar prospect in the same class that turned out to be a lot better?

We can go back and forth on Foskey vs Trice all day if we want.

Trice became a good player. As did Foskey. NaNa was a near Top 200 recruit. The same DL class had Cross, Lacey, and Spears.

That was one of the best DL hauls in the country, and two of them became All-Americans.

Was Foskey able to come back this year, he should have and we may have done better with him.

He had another year but he was a top 40 pick and already in the history books. I do wonder how awesome it would have been to have him this year or JJB last year. That duo would've been sick

Honestly, who has given this half a thought in the last four years? ND fans have actually thought to themselves at any given point during that time, "Man, we could really use Bralen Trice this week."

I just don't see it. It's hindsight and good conversation, but nobody missed this dude.

You would think Elko/Lea or someone would have offered him DC duties.
He's been coaching for over 20 years and was Co-DC at CMU for one season (2005). He just turned 49 in November.

Something tells me that this isn't happening for him. He's a very good football coach and recruiter. For whatever reason, the coordinator job hasn't been in the cards for him to this point.
