Florida back wants to visit Irish - Notre Dame - Scout

Tampa (Fla.) Catholic four-star running back Devan Barrett was offered by Notre Dame earlier this month. The versatile athlete wants to see South Bend before the fall.

Notre Dame offered four-star running back Devan Barrett of Tampa (Fla.) Catholic on March 2, but the coveted athlete already owns a relationship with Irish running backs coach Autry Denson.
“Since day one, I’ve been talking to coach Denson,” Barrett said. “Ever since he followed me a while ago, we’ve had a relationship and talk every day. He’s a great guy.”
The 6-foot, 188-pound athlete is eyeing official visits in the fall but not before he has a solid idea of who are the primary contenders in his recruitment.
“I don’t know much about Notre Dame, to be honest,” Barrett said. “I know they’re a Catholic school, which is what I’m used to. I know they’re a good football team and put a lot of players in the league.
“I’m trying to get up there at some point. I’m not looking to make a spring decision, but I want to get things rolling. I want to take a lot of unoffiicals. I want to know what schools I’m really interested in by the fall and then take my official visits there.”
Barrett has more than 20 offers but said he has no favorites. He does have certain programs recruiting him harder than the rest.
“UNC, Florida, USC, Auburn, Notre Dame, West Virginia, Tennessee and Arkansas are the teams that I talk to every day,” Barrett said.
Barrett has a couple of tentative visits on his schedule.
“Nothing is set in stone, but I’ll probably visit Florida again soon and the in-state schools,” Barrett said. “I’ve already visited Florida, Miami, Florida State and Auburn this year.”
Barrett plays both offense and defense for Tampa Catholic. Notre Dame likes him mostly as a running back.
“Most schools are recruiting me for athlete and telling me I can play wherever,” Barrett said. “I know Notre Dame likes me mostly at running back, but I can play strong safety, free safety or cornerback, too.”
When Barrett does begin to narrow his choices he’s not looking to complicate the decision-making process.
“I’m just looking for the basics,” Barrett said. “How coaches treat me, what feels like home, and just the best overall decision for me.”

Love this RB and his highlight tape. After reading the NFL evaluation about Prosise, how he keeps his feet moving and driving forward before hitting the acceleration. That's what I see in Barrett. The play starting at 2:46 broke the safety's ankles.

He looks like a quality back from my vantage.

Agree. If GAIII could have kept moving like that he would have been an All American. Really good at finding the hole and also knows when to make the bump outside.

That 247 rating seems off. #46 RB, and top 200, 3 :s:

with a 92 rating? Something doesn't compute.

and #46RB go together and 192 OA and 92 rating go together but I don't know how all 4 go together.

Good catch. You're right. I must have used an old profile to build this one and didn't finish it correctly... either that or I pulled it while they were updating(?) Being that I got the RB ranking right and the other three services correct and it's just 247's OA and ratings that are wrong makes that a possibility. Anyways... fixed now. Thanks pkt.

Our stable is pretty full and we have two good RB's as true Frosh this year (more than likely red shirting) plus CJ Holmes committed. I wouldn't be surprised if ND stopped recruiting RB's heavily or at all in general
