Notre Dame fans might want to familiarize themselves with 2016 California linebacker Camilo Eifler. The four-star prospect hasn’t had too much contact with the Irish to this point, but that should change shortly.
The 6-foot-2, 210-pounder is well aware of the opportunities that Notre Dame offers on and off the field.
“The Director of Player Personnel talked to me on Twitter not too long ago and he sent me a link to a couple things about the school,” Eifler told Irish Sports Daily. “I have received a few mailings from them too. There aren’t too many kids from North California that have got Notre Dame interest outside of maybe Caleb Kelly.
“They have a great academic program at Notre Dame. That is something that I am really interested in. I know that football doesn’t last forever and I need something to fall back on. A degree from Notre Dame allows you to go anywhere. They are also known for their football and winning championships, so that is something that sticks out too.”
Eifler is not a stranger to South Bend and actually took a visit to campus last spring. He didn’t get to see the football side of the school, but he got a good feel for the academic side of Notre Dame.
I actually took a visit to Notre Dame last spring with my father,” stated Eifler. “School was in session and we took an academic tour. I got a little taste of the cold and that was cool. That was on my first Midwest tour. I got to see Notre Dame, Ohio State and a couple other Big Ten schools. All the visits were mainly academic visits, because none of those schools had shown interest in me for football yet.
“I got a vibe from the campus that I liked and the campus was beautiful. I mean it’s South Bend. It’s Notre Dame and a couple restaurants. I would have to get used to that if I ended up going there, but it is something I can take forward in my recruiting process.”

The Bishop O’Dowd star has a busy schedule this spring, which includes track and visiting the East Coast on a campus tour with his family. He already holds offers from Cal, Colorado, Duke, Michigan, Northwestern, Oregon State, UCLA and Washington.
“I will be taking a few visits for football in the spring,” explained Eifler. “I will be going to Duke, Clemson, Northwestern and maybe try to squeeze in one more out East. I want to visit the schools that I have been hearing from. I can go out there with parents on these visit so I don’t have to squeeze them in later.
“I am doing track and we are going to be doing some traveling, so I am pretty excited for that. We are going to be flying out to Utah, then Los Angeles and Stanford. I am keeping pretty busy with that. I am running the 100-meter dash, long jump and shot put. I am mainly just a jumper, but doing the 100 will help me work on my speed.”
Eifler is extremely serious about academics, which is something his parents have emphasized since he was young.
“My mom was a professor at Brown University, but now we live in Berkeley,” said Eifler. “She is a professor at Cal and my dad works in the Architectural program at Cal too. They have always been on top of me about my academics and that’s important to me. They have told me to make sure the school is comfortable for me and they aren’t going to push me anywhere.
“They do want me to go to a good school though. I actually want that for myself too. I want to be challenged in the classroom a little bit and not just go through the motions.”
When the time comes for Eifler to settle on a school, that is exactly what he will be doing – picking a school instead of picking a coaching staff.
“For me it will come down to my experiences on my visits,” he said. “When recruits pick colleges for the coaching staffs, it doesn’t really make sense. They could be there when you sign, but leave the next day. On my visits, I want to make a bond with the team. I want to feel comfortable in the football family and feel accepted too. Then, I want the school to be a good academic school as well.
“I want to major in Business. International Business interests me and I speak French, so that could come into play there. Sports Marketing and Communications also could be something I look into. I would love to get into something in the business world and make or run my own business.”

Very well spoken kid. A Northern California kid who wants to major in Business, speaks French, and he is open to Midwest winters? Yes, please.

Doesn't blow you away on film, but very athletic. I love the way he reads and doesn't hesitate. I think he can add 15-20lbs and play inside. He's already jacked.
