their current db commits are 6'0 or 6'1 right in line w/ iman...who knows...but they know what they're doing down there..

Their corner play has been less than stellar the last few years, and their high CB draft picks the last few years haven't done well in the NFL. Dee Milner has been sucking on my Jets.

interesting because saban personally coaches DB's more than any other position group right?

When was the last time Bama pulled a CA recruit? Blake what's his name this year, but I am not sure who else. The culture is very different down there.

They pull in one in 2011, 2013, 2014 and now 2015. I'm sure it could be more if they wanted though.

I think one of the big reasons they've floundered in the NFL is because Saban doesn't teach them backpedaling. It's not something that's expected of a Bama corner.

BTW Minkah Fitzpatrick looks like the prototype for a Bama CB.

I can't think of any meaningful recruits that they pulled out of high school. Blake what's his name would be the first. I don't think they gamble like that, they chase handful a year and they pretty much all don't go. Kiffin might change that though since he has plenty of West Coadt ties.

IMO, when you're paying players it's a lot easier to keep that under wrap when it's in your area. Never know how west coast players/coaches will feel about that. Different culture.

:(

He's excited about the offer and says he needs to evaluate things. One of his visits is to Michigan and that could be switched for Bama. He will figure it out over the dead period.

I don't want to pretend that I know more than anyone else, but I heard a very detailed story from someone one time whom I really trust, and I figured players get paid but it's a lot worse and a lot more accepted than I expected. The amounts I had in mind were as much as 5-10 X less than what is really going on.

The SEC pays and it pays well if you're really good at football. It's not just a joke that happens and happens from time to time, it's very real. TIFWIW.

Culture's different, but Saban is a silver tongue devil. He can sell ice to an eskimo.

If I recall correctly, Trent Richardson was driving a very nice car (Escalade?) while at Bama and he's from a pretty poor family.

That doesn't mean that Bama is paying them though. He could have taken money from an agent or given the keys to the car just to drive. Paying players to get them to go to the school for cash is much different than taking money from an agent or booster. The latter can happen without the staff knowing. I am sure Bama is turning the blind eye, ala Pete Carroll did with Bush.

Great, Biggie is "excited" about his Bama offer. I don't understand how Bama keeps getting the #1 class year after year after year?! Must be those hospitable southern belles and their BBQ...

It's because A. they win every year, B. They have the best football coach in CFB. C. They have warm weather and nice facilities. D. Their players can take joke classes and anyone can get in. E. Beautiful women F. They pay their players to add the cheery on top.

This is exactly it. It is not one thing. It's all of that PLUS the second best tradition in college football.

I fully get the A) winning and B) Coach Saban. I think there are plenty of quality coach's to commit to where the depth charts aren't so deep. And there are plenty of schools in the southern states with C) warm weather (some with oceans/beaches) and nice facilities is becoming more even across the board too. There are just as E) beautiful women at U$C, UCLA, San Diego, Arizona State, Texas, Miami, too.

It leaves me wondering how much D) and F) there really is???

I'm pretty sure both of those are violations of NCAA rules.

It would suck if Alize and Biggie visited Bama on the same weekend. Could be bad for ND and the 2 L.A. schools.

I've been to Tuscaloosa before. They have hot chicks, but nowhere near the level of those schools you listed, especially ASU, UCLA and U$C. Not to mention, warm weather isn't always a good thing. Sure, Tuscaloosa stays relatively average during the winter (around 40-50), but the summers are brutal (90-100) and humid. Not to mention, Tuscaloosa is in the middle of nowhere. I'd rather be in South Bend, only a few hours away from a major city than be in Tuscaloosa, AL, where the state has no major cities.

I'm confused. Who's paying them to attend? The school? Either way it's equally offensive.

They are not equal. If an institution is knowingly paying players to attend, it is much worse than if an agent is paying players and the institution was not involved. That is a huge difference. The institution can only do so much and really cannot watch these kids 24/7.

Yeah they are but paying players to attend a University is far worse than them taking it from boosters or agents.

Actually it's not. Go ask SMU.

For clarification, typically when someone talks about a school paying players, they don't mean the school, they are referring to boosters and/or agents. Some people at the school are usually aware but put their head in the sand or pull the Sgt. Schultz routine.

Exactly. My boss' brother was a big-time recruit in the 80's and ended up signing with Ole Miss. He got money from boosters all the time after games. Just part of the culture, I'm sure it goes on to some extent at every big-time school. It's not a big deal to me unless it's coming from the staff or they are arranging the money. I'm sure most coaches just look the other way.
