He's down to UCLA and ND, that has been established for quite some time. Both are recruiting him as an athlete. According to ISD, Kelly called him last week and they talked, and Barr is looking forward to meeting with him in an in-home visit early next month. Barr liked what Kelly had to say, and Kelly told him he sees him as an offensive player, a RB who will also catch the ball in a variety of routes. Barr also sees himself as an offensive player but isn't adverse to playing defense...
This how I see him at Notre Dame, its been awhile that we have had a big NFL type ballcarrier who could go to defense if he grows or isnt fast enough for a college backfield. Telling him that your leaning to giving him a chance at offense is smart, kelly is no fool, these guys who are athletes first is how I would build my team anyway. He can play about 4 positions when the dust settles on his body and maturity. Guys like this even make great strong safeties if they can run. Hope we get him and his family back in the fold. What you gotta love about the guy is that he seems open to just helping the team, sounds like a great young man.

I have siad, since about page 8, that he's been a silent verbal. I'm still convinced that that is the case.

I hope you are right Wabash, but just to be fair, in the case that you aren,t I think you should record yourself punching yourself int he face and then uploading it to IE so we can all watch. It's the proper punishment for breaking my heart.

From Page 8:

Anyone else still playing up the angle that he's already a silent commit to us?

I am.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

Are you going to let us in on whose silent he is before Feb 3rd?

"to us" would infer ND, no? Or maybe just IE... Who can say with these wacky kids?

I think this is actually a good sign, in a way. Barr was the one who brought it up to Kelly. So he obviously wants to know if that move would be okay with Kelly. I don't know how to put a finger on it, but I guess someone that inquisitive seems to me that they are strongly, strongly considering coming here. Maybe it's nothing, but the fact that he talks about seeing the field as soon as possible means the rumors that SC may be going after him now don't scare me that much.

it talks about Barr not "feeling" WR and that Safety is what he'd like to play.

I guess Barr took a look at the depth chart and realized that he could be on the field very early in the season at safety - as in the first defensive series vs Purdue.

I don't think that safety will be his best position because I think he'll get too big, but the transition from safety to OLB would be pretty easy. I'll take him anywhere he wants to play!

Anybody know what UCLA's depth at safety looks like? Any safety recruits this year? They lost Tony Jefferson, right?

Tony Jefferson committed to Oklahoma. They have one Safety recruit this year, one last year, and then three from 2008 that had three top 20 safety prospects ( including Rahim Moore who tied for the nation in interceptions with nine.

Not sure which depth chart makes it easier for Barr, but I am sure he could compete for early playing time at either this school, probably more likely at ND considering we have two open safety spots if HSmith isn't moved back there.

I would LOVE to see him at safety.

We are deep at WRs and RBs.. We are hurting at the safety position. I think it could truly beast it up at safety.

We discussed Barr as a possible safety about 6 months ago. A couple of people brought up Taylor Mays as a "Big" Safety and saw Barr in that kind of role. Obviously size matters. Safety is a definite need but he's gonna have to stop going to In and Out Burgers, right now. While most everybody else in his recruiting class will be bulking up he'll be doing Jenny Craig.

Whatever position he ends up at down the road finding a position for him is a wonderful problem for any coach to have to face. And unlike players like Tony Driver his coach won't have to spend two years getting him to accept a change of position.

I was thinking the exact same thing this guy will liekly be over 250 by his senior year. Barr has good speed and great quickness but he doesnt run a 4.3 like Mays. I guess they can give him a shot but he belongs on D we need this type of athlete hunting down ball carriers

We all know he doesn't have Mays speed but he still moves well for a big safety and could be the same kind of intimidator. As for him being 250 as a senior he could also be a 290 DL. A lot of guys bulk up a lot. Some don't. Mays didn't.

David Givens lost 2 pounds in his 4 years at ND. I remember sitting in a hotel room with him, Driver, Getherall, and I believe Darcy Levy the night before the '98 Southern Cal game. Joey had bragged all season to this none west coast guys about In and Out Burgers and his dad and I brought a couple bags of them to the hotel for a "snack". When Givens reached for a second burger, Driver quipped," Eat that and Mattison will have you playing 'backer tomorrow. You know he's said, "Five more pounds and you're mine." Givens had the motivation to maintain his weight and he did throughout his college career. I always though Givens could have been a fine backer but he's done fine staying at the same position.

Again it's a great problem for a Coach to have to face.

Just got a text message from a UCLA buddy of mine. Said that on Barr's Facebook page he is wearing a UCLA shirt and that there are people congratulating him. He says Barr hasn't responded. I don't have a facebook page so I can't confirm, and hopefully he's just wearing it b/c I believe he is visiting this weekend, but damn, I hope it's not true...

Another poster on ISD whose son plays with AB at Loyola showed him the picture, and it is of AB with 2 other recruits all dressed in UCLA gear in the UCLA locker room. One guy is already committed, while the other kid will probably go to Navy. They're there on a recruiting visit this weekend. No confirmation from AB, but it's still not a good sign that he put it on his facebook. As a person from a ND/UCLA family (2 brothers and my sister went there), I can absolutely see why he would choose UCLA in the end, but I still want him badly to choose ND. Hope he doesn't commit on emotion this weekend and gives the ND coaches one more shot...
