Most people on ESPN seem to have us ranked between #20 and #25. I think one guy had us at 18 but that's the highest I've seen.

I agree with NDFan4Life, especially a preseason rankings done now. Many things can happen between now and the start of fall camp. However, I think it would be more difficult for us to jump from a preseason of 18 to an NC the way we did in 1988.

I agree Preseason means nothing look at Auburn, UGA, and Georgia Tech this year. I sure there are a ton of example, but good to see us inthe top 25 again.

It's just nice to be ranked again. This, my friends, is a program on the rise. We'll take our time with getting a new Defensive line coach and Offensive Coordinator and we'll be in the top 10 again next year.

I like that a little confidence,lol. Hey you know with our schedule a preseason #23 and an undefeated year we for sure could be playing for a title. I doubt we will win every game but undefeated to USC would be top 10 and then a win there we could be #5. Just saying that a preseason ranking is more than we have had the last couple years and it could be a good thing.

Plus, this is January we could move up, or down. You never know. GO IRISH!!!!!!

Well if Utah was ranked higher in Pre-season they might of been in the N.C. hunt, so it does matter if you have a good team.

Preasons rankings matter for us next year. I feel like many here believe that a 10-2 season is a definite possibility, and if that's the case, our preseason ranking could play in to decide if we get a BCS berth or not. A lot easier to climb into the top 14 of the BCS if we start out ranked in the top 25 as opposed to being unranked. We were 4-1 and unranked this year (first time ever) so I would have to say that preseason rankings do matter. They might not mean much in terms of the national championship race at the end of the season, but they definitely could matter for us next year.

Cause Pollards taking a visit to UCLA, Manti is gonna be a Coug and Jelani is gonna stay in MD or somewhere East......and even if those guys stayed we wouldn't move up to 15 in the polls......

hey chyrspchuck and NDFan537, i think they are talking about the actual ND team and not our recruiting rankings..... but on that note, i would say anything out of the top 10 with this schedule is just stupid....but then i look at charlies last two seasons. so maybe they are right. but yeah, preseason rankings dont mean squat. so who cares.

i'm very aware that this is preseasons polls and not recruiting ranking. i'm simply stating that i'm sure if we slip in recruiting some solid players we will be back in the same boat in a couple of years.

Yeah, it's early but it's been a slow day on the ND front. Interesting in that not only does the writer NOT have us in the top 25, he doesn't even have us on the cusp. I want to say that this writer is anti-ND, but I'm not sure if I'm mixing him up with another SI writer.

No matter, the ranking mean jack until like mid-October, when you can get a read on what teams are really about (who saw Utah as ending up #2 or 3 in the nation last year at this time?). Interesting read though, as far as who is losing key players and who is returning key players. And when I mean 'key', I mean QB...

No one here is saying we should definitely be ranked, I was just sending the link out there. I want to win games, then bitch about not being ranked. I think we should be on the cusp, maybe 24 or 25, but we don't have the right yet to complain about our rankings...

Its nice to see...but, gotta see it on the field.

Broken record time...the O-line play decides if we finsih unranked or as high as 10.

Charlie's job, and to some degree the future of this program rests on the o-line play in '09...new o-line coach or not...spring is all he has to "adjust".
