Anybody heard how he has been doing with his injury?

I hear he has been doing well. His injury wasn't as serious as the doc's innitially thought it might be. He has lost some weight about 10-15lbs(not a big deal) last i heard, but should be able to get into the weight room soon.

This kid is SICK and WRONG! Someone please tell me why he's not a 5 star. We need to use him on punt returns, kickoff returns, Use him as an option/spread quarteback from time to time (goaline situations) and use him as a D/B. Plain and Simple we need this kid to touch the ball as much as possible. I see something very special about him and I think he has a bright future at Notre Dame.

I thought he was brought in for safety? Oh, well, I am sure the staff, if they see what you do, can be more free with his use.

I had seen him play a few times and thought he would be a pretty good player but now after watching that video i'm really excited to have him coming to ND. He looks like he could be a good return man.

McCarthy is the best option QB in the nation hands down. The fact that he is coming to ND to play defensive back when he could go somewhere and play quarterback is pretty humble of the kid...

He is a tremendous athlete, one of theb est all-around playrs in this class and I agree he should be a 5-star player and listed as an athlete. He is the most fluid with the ball in his hands that I have seen in this class, that includes running backs.

Does that even include THE "I will save the CFB world" Terrelle Pryor?

I've been saying it forever, but Danny's the best athlete I've ever seen in person.

I know I'm bias because I'm a Cardinal Mooney alumni, but I thought Kyle McCarthy was the best athlete I'd seen until I saw his brother play. It's barely even close.

Well, then Danny is our Terrelle Pryor "neutralizer" for when Pryor signs w/ scUM and the Irish play them. He'll have to be plugged in on the defense line-up and his whole focus is strictly on Pryor to take away his running lanes! :)

Absolutely... I think Pryor is just a big fast kid. He's got some moves but McCarthy is a monster athlete and seriously puts kids on the ground with his moves.

What I mean is... Pryor is a very good runner, but he's not a fluid, graceful runner like McCarthy. Pryor uses his superior physical attributes to make plays... He doesn't have great vision, and he's not that elusive.

McCarthy on the other hand is like a surgeon with the ball in his hands... His cuts are precise and he wastes no motion. He starts and stops on a dime and has probably the best acceleration I've seen in this class. He barely gets touched at all in his highlight film. Part of it is good blocking but a huge part of it is his own ability...

He would easily rush for 1500 yards if he went to a school like Navy and played quarterback. In his freshman year. I'm not even kidding. He's arguably the best triple option QB I've ever seen.

Lets just hope he heals up completely before we start predicting anything.

I guess Danny's going to have surgery soon to correct his neck injury, if he hasn't already had it. I know rehab was the original diagnosis, but that was a preliminary decision and things change.

From what was told to me, the surgery isn't anything career-threatening. I guess it was decided that, if he wanted to go on to do anything, regardless of if he ever played football again, it would be in his best interests to have the surgery. It's going to be a good thing for him with regards to his on-field and off-fields careers.

How long is this surgery going to take to heal?

That, I don't know, but it doesn't sound like a huge deal that will have him out for a year or anything. Neck surgery is always a "dirty" word in a sport like football, but I don't think it'll be a problem or I would have been told so, ya know?

I'm no doctor, though. Just passing along what I was told. I don't know if I've said here before, but I'm a Mooney alum, my cousin grew up with Kyle McCarthy, and I have family who still go to the school.

The McCarthys are great kids and, as ND fans and Mooney alums, we're huge fans of them.

He probably would have "redshirted" this year anyway with all the talent ND has a Saftey, so as long as this isn't carrer threatening it shouldn't be a big deal.

That's what I'm thinking the rationale was. The time on the sidelines after a surgery would be longer than for just rehabing it, but if you can fix what's wrong and know you probably weren't going to see the field anyway this coming season...You go for it.

At least he knows he won't have his offer pulled like some other douchebag coaches and universities.

Where did you hear this? If you don't mind me asking. He didn't say anything about surgery last week when my best friend talked to him.

My aunt has a child at Mooney and my cousin has a good friend on the football team. My aunt's been a big fund raiser-type for Mooney for years now and pretty much knows everyone and everything going on at the school. She's who I heard it from and I'm inclined to believe because she's a big know-it-all.

I'm removed as I don't live in Youngstown anymore, but she was pretty matter-of-fact about the whole thing. She knew about the rehab thing when I told her about it and said he was going to have the surgery.

I'm not saying I can't be wrong because I freely admit this isn't first-hand info. I just know my Aunt has known the McCarthy family for probably a decade now. Her older son is the one who grew up with Kyle and went through grade and high school with him.

Thanks Colin, I'll try to get another update soon on him

Yeah, if you hear anything, please do. I'm not trying to get any bad rumors started or anything, just passing along what I heard because it's not often I have any inside info on a ND recruit.

I can tell you all you want about the kids Mooney sent to Kent State, though. Hah.

No, I believe you! I didn't mean for it to come out that way. I'm just going to try to get an update on his precedure and the recovery time. I'm wondering if he had a setback in rehab
