Busy, busy time in South Bend. In addition to Newman, Sweat, and Forst visiting this weekend, and Goebel, scheduled for Wednesday, the big nasty one, Omar Hunter is also scheduled to visit the Irish in the next few days.

Now, Omar has to be still considered a long shot for the Irish, but ND is in his latest Top 5. Also, when you consider that all of the scUM recruiting sites were telling scUM fans that the minute Omar gets an offer from Michigan, he would be a Wolverine, the mere fact that he is visiting ND is simply delightful.

Just imagine if Big Omar were actually to commit to the Irish. If that happened I predict that the whole western side of the state of Michigan might fall into Lake Michigan because it will be so tilted from scUM fans heading to the Lake to off themselves. Anybody want to but some new lakefront property in Lansing?

I've been to Lansing, beachfront property will hardly improve it.

Omar is supposed to be in South Bend tomorrow, and Ann Arbor on Thursday, with the rumor that he will commit by the end of the week. If that is true, then I guess ND is in the Big Man's final 2. They are really going to have wow him tomorrow for the Irish to actually win this battle, especially with Newman now on board. On the other hand, Big Omar knows that ND may have only one D-line spot left, so if he is really interested in ND, he knows that time is running out. We will see, but the consensus seems to be that scUM will win this one.

IUB -- if he commits to the Irish (I know it's a long shot), what happens with Fortson's recruitment?

It probably makes it unlikley considering the fact we'll probably stop at 4 and hold out for a super star like Forston, but if Goebel wanted to come this summer I think that would wrap it up for D-line. Has Omar ever been to SB? He was basically a UM lock a while ago and now he broke his leg and probably wants some security, who knows but I fully expect him to commit to UM by the end of this week. It would be a pleasent suprise if he came here though.

I think because of the talent and strategic recruiting impact of Forston, that an offer would still be held for him if Hunter were to surprise us and go Irish. I think it would have more impact on Goebel, who just happens to be also coming to South Bend tomorrow. Goebel was originally going to wait until later to announce, but the positive & negative (positive- another talented DL, negative for Goebel- another ND slot filled) aspect of Newman committing may force Goebel's hand a little. Add to that the fact that ND might also be in Hunter's Top 2, and Goebel may have to decide sooner than he would have liked whether the Irish are for him. This could be a case of who commits first if both of them are really serious about ND. Two guys visiting on the same day for possibly only 1 available spot, could be the ultimate game of recruiting chicken, although I doubt it will come down to that.

Wow his film is as impressive as Forstons. He visited today right? along with Goebel. I definently don't want him to go to UM, but it seems very likely to happen. Hopefully he's been building a strong relationship with CB and it pulls him in.

If Omar Hunter were to commit to ND there is no way ND will continue to recruit Marcus Forston. Newman, Hunter and Forston are NT and who know's what ND recruited Hafis Williams for? I like the kid alot especially as a 4-3 DT and I don't see him as a 3-4 DE and I'm not sure he's a NT and if he is then why is ND trying to get a 3rd NT in one class by still recruiting Hunter and Forston.

IMO Goebel isn't that effected by what Hunter does because I suspect that he will be a DE like Cwynar in the 3-4.

As I said if Hunter comes Forston gone and the player I would suspect that they would hold an offer for kike they would've for Forston is 3-4 DE Ethan Johnson.

there is no way ND will continue to recruit Marcus Forston. I love the absolutes like you know for sure that if Hunter commits, that ND will not go after Forston. Did you talk to CW/CB about it. Also, the absolute that Forston is a NT. How about stating an opinion instead of trying to state that what you think are facts. Everybody has an opinion, and you know what they say about that. IMO, ND would not tell Forston he does not have an offer anymore if Hunter commits because he is too valuable of a recruiting commodity to just let go. IMO, Forston is not purely a NT, but capable of playing anywhere on the DL even in the 3-4, but those are just my opinions, I don't have the knowledge to state that will absolutely happen the way you did.

It is also my opinion that this discussion is all a moot point because Hunter will most likely (not absolutely) select Michigan.

Ricochet you could've put that in one reply not 3.
I know but it was one of those things that I thought I was done with the post submitted already I guess in hindsight I could've went back and edit it but I didn't for whatever reason. My bad. Sorry.

Of course not and I agree with what your saying in most cases because I would be saying the same thing but using common sense do you really see ND bringing in 3 to 4 NT in one class? I don't and thats why I made it out to be an absolute if Hunter comes to ND. I agree that it's most likely a moot point because it's most likely that Hunter commits to Michigan.

I believe he was referring to Marcus Forston, who could be a NT, or the "DT" in our scheme - the DT being the DE that would kick inside for the 4-3 look.

Not sure. He was supposed to be at ND yesterday, and UM today and then possibly decide by the end of the week, or maybe next week as well.

someone on a Georgia rivals board claims he was very impressed with his visit to ND and could commit soon. I heard this over on DD from a poster who was skeptical of the validity of the post, but still worth mentioning if it ends up being true.

Here is the link if you have access

Maybe nothing to it, but it sure is flaming fires on UGA & ND boards, including comments such as Omar committing to ND this Tuesday. I will believe it when I see it, but if I see it, it would be a very welcome site. Two big talented monster DL's in a liitle more than a week.

That would be huge IMO. Watching his film is like watching Forstons....beastly. Also I think this won't affect Goebels recruitment because our coaches mentioned they wanted to take 5 D-lineman this year and obviously we'd need another DE. It would basically rule out any type of Forston hold out which I have absolutely NO problem with if it's Hunter we're getting.
