I have no idea but he's the RB I want more than anybody else in this class. USC has taken a total of 8 highly rated RB's in the last 2 seasons alone and because of that I think ND should have a fair shot at getting him. ND's RB isn't that good IMO and the 2007 RB while very good and I'm glad to have them seem to be more of the specialist type. Allen is an All purpose RB and Hughes to me is FB/RB hybrid thats great at getting tough short yardage plays and thats how I think he will be used, a Lendal White type of RB. Aldridge IMO is the only true traditional featured RB on the roster.

Last year alone they got the #1, #2 and the #14 rated RB's so of those 8 RB's they are either 5 star prospects or high 4 stars, it's insane. My guess this year they will load up on WR's instead of RB's and/or QB's.

According to Rivals, the Irish have entered the Darrell Scott recruiting battle by giving Scott an Official Offer. When the ratings come out, Scott will be most likely a 5 star prospect, the #1 recruit from the state of California, and either the #1 or #2 rated RB in the country. Notre Dame will be battling all of the big name schools for the coveted St. Bonaventure RB as Scott has already received offers from USC, Florida, Texas, and Michigan among others.

Scott had 3194 yards rushing last year and averaged almost 9.5 yards a carry. He also rushed for 45 touchdowns As a soph. he had 1988 yards.Holy crap.

I'd like to get him and McGuffie. Between them last year, they had more than 6,400 yards and scored 89 touchdowns. Getting these two could seriously shrink the talent gap between ND and SC at the RB position.

Traditionally, I think you are right. However, last year USC did not get any St. Bonnie kids, and their top recruit, TE Blaine Irby, is going to Texas. That is why some of the gurus are saying that Texas has the inside track on Scott. IMO, he is wide open and going to play the field.

I agree with you 100% on Scott over McGuffie. As impressive as McGuffie's videos are and as much as he would be a great addition for the Irish, he does not compare to Scott as a pure stud running back.

Thats not why some think Texas has the inside track, its because he's bounced around and has lived in Florida, Texas and now California. He's yet to play for St. Bonaventure yet and he just enrolled there for the 2nd half of the school year.

From what I read Texas feels that way because they think they have a connection through the St. Bonny coaching staff, obviously not because Scott ever played with Irby. Can you clarify your first sentence. Since Scott has lived in Florida, Texas, and California, what makes you say that this gives Texas an edge, why not Florida or USC? When he played in Texas, did he have some serious contact with the Texas program? Appreciate the info, thanks.

That was poor writing on my part so sorry for the confusion, i was more or lesstrying to make the point that if he's favoring Texas it's more likely because he spent some of his time living there and might have more of a connection there abd there true love of football in the state not that I actually had any info to suggest that he does favor Texas.

As for a Texas-St. Bonaventure that would put Texas out in front because of the HS staff and that connection just because Irby, I don't buy that and I doubt that they have that strong connection if any other than one of players here and there going to Austin. Remember Scott has yet to play for St. Bonaventure and he hasn't come through there ranks so I don't he's got blind loyalty faith in there coaching staff to be that influenced if they try to push him in the direction that they want.

Gotcha, and I agree, I think he is wide open for the same reasons, but I think that unfortunately he is probably not wide open enough to go Irish. I hope I'm wrong though, and I'm sure that if the offer reported by rivals is verified, that the ND staff would not have offered Scott unless they thought that they had at least a chance, and when you think you have a chance, no matter how slim, for an athlete like Scott, you might as well go for it.

I heard there is a little bit of early interest there on both sides. He does have a profile on here, so there might be a little more info on that. I really never looked that closely at his profile.

B&G has confirmed the Official Offer to Darrell Scott that was first reported by Rivals on March 7. With that Darrell becomes the 49th member of the Irish Envy Official Offer list.

Scott is the #7 ranked player on the initial ESPN 150, and the #2 rated RB. In this case, it is not a fluke. All of the recruiting services are expected to rate Scott as the #1 or #2 RB prospect in the 2008 Class, and he will also be most likely a Top 10 player on all boards.

As posters on this thread have indicated Scott is somewhat of a nomad. His current enrollment status as St. Bonnie’s in Ventura, by no means makes him a USC lock. In fact, all indications are to the contrary as Scott seems to be keeping his recruiting wide open. Nonetheless, the Irish face an uphill battle in recruiting Scott as Texas, Florida, and USC are generally considered to be the front runners in the Darrell Scott derby. However, Scott has recently had some nice comments about Notre Dame, saying that he has been impressed by the offensive output of the Irish over the past two seasons, and adding that they have pretty good recruiting classes, and they have Jimmy Clausen. Scott’s singular comment about Clausen, "He's good." Let the race begin.

According to a new article, Scott has a list of 10 schools going forward that he is considering, and ND did not make the cut.

Here is his list, be forewarned, it's ugly:

LSU, Texas, UCLA, Colorado, Florida, Florida State, Miami, USC, Cal and Michigan.

The only one that is missing that could make it worse is Ohio State.

Scott talks about committing in late summer, but may want to take some Officials in the fall, so he does not seem really sure.

In any case, if this is all true, it's time for ND to move on, and really go after Thomas, Williams, or Gray. Even with the current great RB depth, you still want to recruit at least 1 high quality RB in each class, and Carlton Thomas especially may turn out to be something special.

Torrence, that pretty much put the kabosh on that dream. I thought it was Texas A&M, USC, Michigan, Notre Dame, in no particular order?

That being said, I do like all the other backs with offers; none of them will leave ND feeling disappointed. I never really had a good feeling about Darrell Scott, but I know that sounds too easy to say at this juncture.

#1- Rivals, national coverage, not a school site.
#2- McGuffie still hoping to get an offer from OSU, has not received one yet. I have not seen anything lately that says McGuffie has any interest in ND, but he has been much quieter lately after making some pretty cocky comments in February & March. IMO, McGuffie is the least likely of the other 4 RB offers to pick ND, and again, IMO only, he would be the last one that I would like to see. To me, Thomas has the most potential, Williams is currently the most solid, and Gray, although not as spectacular as McGuffie, is a top quality RB with a much more mature attitude than SM.

The name's Devoe Torrence. Reliable sources over at BP say that OSU promised Devoe that he would be the only RB taken in the class. So if Sam is offered, he would be offered as an athlete.

It didn't take Rivals long to react to the Scott story, they no longer even list him as an ND offer, which is what they usually do if an offered recruit is not considering a school. They usually list no more than 10 schools in the college choice section of the recruit profile, so once you drop out of the Top 10, their database basically forces you off the Offer Lists of any school not in the college choices.
