I honestly expected recruiting to simmer around this time due to our filled needs at most positions, but now that we are in on so many big names, I'm hoping we finish strong.

I'd want him just behind Gerrell and Deion right now in terms of needs and wants. I think he is that good, but I think unless UCLA highers the worst coach ever, he'll end up there.

Ok, just to recap with Datone, he already took a visit to Colorado last weekend. He plans on taking a visit to Oregon the weekend of Jan 11th and 12th, then taking one to Arizona State on the weekend of Jan 18th and 19th, then finally to ND on Jan. 25th and 26th. He is still currently commited to UCLA but that is greatly dependant on weather or not the defensive coaching staff will remian in place and he does have an official written offer from ND that was delivered personally by CW. In addition to that he has recently picked up visits from Weis, Polian and Brown as well as a few phone calls. His coach has also said that he has the grades to get into ND, but he had to wait on test score results to be able to take an official visit.

In recruiting it is always best to be last visit...people retain more from the last place they visit and the other run together

With the hiring of Neuheisel, there are rumors UCLA DC Walker could head to Washington to work under Ty. Many believe Jones won't follow Walker there, even though he is very high on Walker.

Ty will be gone after next season and walker will take over that job if that's the case. Ty-tanic doesn't have many supporters left there. i wonder what john saunders and jesse jackson will say if UW cans Ty. i doubt they'll have the same racial undertones as they did when ND let him go. they'll probably finally address the truth in that Ty isn't a very good coach. that subject if for a different day if at all. maybe Ty will hire bob davie!!!

It def would be great 2 get this kid, I'm hearin a lot of good things about him, his speed is his big weapon and would cause an OT a bunch of trouble..

I actually think Jim Mora Jr. will end up with the job, but either way if Walker leaves UCLA I think they will not only lose Datone, but many others in the class. Then once UCLA is out of it I think ND could and will be a major player here as long as he likes the campus.

I think it speaks to the importance of Notre Dame football in our culture. No one cares if Buffalo fires their head coach, no matter his race. It's nothing against Notre Dame, it's just that it is Notre Dame; the pinnacle, summit, whatever you choose to call it.

I agree that it's wrong to attack a school for firing a black coach. All the focus should be on the schools that dont give the black coach any more than a token interview, as Slyvester Croom called his interview with his alma mater Alabama. I read that Croom said in the next decade, he doesnt think the SEC will hire another black head coach. One might feel the environment has changed, but clearly it hasn't and that's a far bigger problem than Notre Dame firing a black coach.

I guess the only way Notre Dame could have walked away clean is if Ty won a National Title, becoming the first black head coach to win one and then leave on his own accord.

The University of Washington has hired UCLA defensive coordinator DeWayne Walker as its new defensive coordinator, Sporting News has learned.

Walker, who coached the Bruins in this season's Las Vegas Bowl in place of the fired Karl Dorrell, is replacing Karl Baer on Tyrone Willingham's staff.

Landing Walker is a coup for Washington, which hasn't been to a bowl since 2002. Walker brings an impressive resume to Seattle that includes extensive NFL experience with the Redskins, Giants and Patriots.

He'll take over a beleaguered Washington defense that finished last in the Pac-10 in 2007 (446 yards per game). Walker must deliver, as Willingham will be on a hot seat in 2008.

Walker is considered to be one of the best defensive coordinators in the nation. He did some of his best work the last two years with UCLA. His 2006 defense led the Pac-10, while this season's unit ranked fourth in the conference.

New UCLA coach Rick Neuheisel wanted to keep Walker. Not only does losing him to Washington hurt UCLA's defense, it also will be a blow to the Bruins' recruiting efforts. Walker was one of the school's best recruiters, and there could be fallout with regard to UCLA's strong 2008 class.

This is positive news for us with the recruiting of Jones. Doesn't mean he'll leave UCLA or that he won't go somwhere other than ND, but it was probably necessary to get him to consider somewhere other than UCLA.

He doesn't play inside, like hunter does

But Haffis and Cwynar have the size that they could project to playing inside where you could slide one of them over to if you found a DE that could fill one of their spots.

Datone is being recruited by ND as a hybrid OLB/DE which is that of Kerry Neal, Brian Smith and John Ryan. Hafis and Newman are noseguards........Cwynar and Johnson are ends....We are not trying to replace Omar with Jones....we've been recruiting him for a while now and it's a completly different position.

I just read that Jones may have to cancel his trip to ND on the 25th due to miscommunication issues. Miscommunication=Dewayne Walker staying at UCLA???

Either that or his test scores didn't come in high enough. Either way "miscommunication" sounds a little fishy
