    The Pete Bevacqua Thread

It's just that the MOU says ND is in if ranked high enough by the committee. But it still depends on the committee ranking. And I don't think it even comes into force if the CFP moves to 16 teams (only 12 or 14), which seems likely now.

It's amazing how people are so concerned about how ND is perceived. Is ND being hated new?

    2025 College Football Playoffs

Given the ACC's convoluted tiebreaker, we have no idea what the effect of conference membership would be. An easier schedule where ND goes 11-1 would be just as helpful (i.e., TTU's move).

    USC out, BYU in

Expansion to 16 basically means ND is in the CFP at 10-2 or better. USC wouldn't be backing out if they were beating us every year.

    The Pete Bevacqua Thread

Playing the ND/USC game at USC in November is a "compromise"? You know, the way it's been done since 1926? Either they want to keep the rivalry going, or they don't. They don't. It is what it is. The MOU is meaningless, though, and if ND/Bevacqua think it's significant and will "reassure"...

Unfortunately, it has been the season from hell.

    The Pete Bevacqua Thread

To be fair, it does seem like he got rolled by the committee. The sport is highly corrupt, so maybe a loud, public campaign would have helped. But if it was about money, maybe not. Unless he was going to offer to distribute ND's playoff share to SEC teams or something.

    The Pete Bevacqua Thread

What concessions should he have made to USC? Why should ND make all the concessions? If they don't want to continue to rivalry in good faith, fine. Whatever.

Marcus Freeman named Dick Corbett Head Football Coach

I don't expect Freeman to leave, but it's also possible he is in the group of coaches that dislikes the sudden changes in college sports. Jay Wright, Tony Bennett, Saban, etc. The CFP selection process makes the NFL look like the most honest enterprise on the planet.

I don't care whether we stay independent or not, but I'm pretty sure this is about USC, not us.

    USC out, BYU in

No, because the evidence suggests the committee decided in advance that 10-2 OU, Bama, and Miami were in ahead of us (at least if UVA lost the ACCCG). A game vs. BYU wouldn't have put our SOS ahead of OU or Bama's.

    USC out, BYU in

We got left out of the CFP for a bunch of reasons, but I don't think a weak schedule was one of them. Look at OSU, IU, Oregon, or TTU's schedules. The issue was going 10-2 rather than 12-0 or 11-1.

Did the BYU AD not get that memo? USC has been looking to get out of the series for months.

    USC out, BYU in

ESPN saying the "ND-BYU series is putting the USC series on hold"- uh, is that going to be the journalist narrative here? No, USC cancelled the series and we set up a series with BYU to fill the spot.

Not to pick on anybody, but the ND beat was confident it would be extended at least for two years iirc. Makes me wary about their other predictions

That caused us to give up 41 points (at home) to an A&M team that just scored 3 points in their playoff game?

    2025 College Football Playoffs

I disagree. The point of the tiebreaker is to maximize the number of playoff teams. If UVA had won, maybe they get two teams in, as stInd01 said. Now, as it happens, we have evidence that the ACC knew it advance only 1 ACC team would get in (UVA if they won, Miami if Duke won). The ACC...

    2025 College Football Playoffs

This is like saying because a Jeep will not be perfect at helping me drive through tough terrain, it is no better than my Accord. A computer-based ranking would include human elements (e.g., the AP and Coaches' polls) and would be far better than the current system.
