I suspect the committee knew it too. The ranking wasn't about quality, it was about distributing revenue to stakeholders.

    2025 College Football Playoffs

Both Alabama and OU are middling (and worse than ND and Miami) but one of them has to win. I'd expect Bama, because OU won the first time and got lucky. OU jumping ND was as bizarre/unjustifiable as Bama doing so.

'24 TX RB Kedren Young (Notre Dame Signee)

I agree, although it's an open question whether the O Line will be playing at that level. They were emphatically not ready for the Miami game and it was a big part of our offensive struggles.

Again, they will just bump us to 13 to avoid that rule kicking in. It's interesting that Swarbrick designed this system. He doesn't seem to have noticed the minefields for ND all over the place, which blew up in our face this year. First, the committee itself is the main problem. They will...

He said on the II podcast that it was about "politics," and that he believes if UVA had beaten Duke, ND would have been in. The head-to-head argument was a red herring to ensure than an ACC team got in. I believe this is right, given what Phillips apparently knew and said in advance (that one...

    2025 College Football Playoffs

A week out, the post-screw job commentary has only confirmed what we already knew: the process is about money and not about ranking teams fairly, based on quality. When someone (e.g., Greg McElroy) says that the committee doesn't want to drop CCG losers and create a disincentive to play CCGs...

How do we all look back on the 2025 season?

Unfortunately, not making the playoffs means it was a failure. No way around that, given the talent/expectations.

    The Pete Bevacqua Thread

And who had to fire his coach the day after ND beat his team into the ground earlier in the season. I doubt that made him want to vote for ND later on.

Let's just hope it doesn't take 2.5 games to get the defense at a functional level again.

    The Pete Bevacqua Thread

The changes that will protect ND are (1) merit-based playoff bids (likely meaning no committee); and (2) expansion. My understanding is that the SEC wants (2) more than the other leagues. You can't simply refuse to work with the SEC/Sankey, even though they played a big role in screwing us...

Odds are not good for decisions involving a small number of people. They are very good for games though.

The NFL will be around in 5-10 years. And, anyway, I don't get why it's a step up. If you fail there you have to start over and climb up again. And you don't have control over the team like you do in college (that's basically why Saban went back to college). Maybe MF doesn't care about that.

Marcus Freeman named Dick Corbett Head Football Coach

He hasn't signed an extension yet. Pete "ND is safely in if BYU loses" Sampson said to expect it in the next month. Idk why it is taking so long, it can be done in a day.

Marcus Freeman named Dick Corbett Head Football Coach

The ND beat has dismissed it. Of course, a week ago some of them were confidently predicting that ND was safely in the CFP with a BYU loss. Who is on the shortlist if MF leaves?

    2025 College Football Playoffs

The MOU is completely meaningless; it's the equivalent of signing a contract promising to give you a sweater for Christmas "if I feel like giving you a sweater for Christmas." It's not worth fighting with ADs over that. Switch to a BCS-style computer system and rank teams based on merit. And/or...

    2025 College Football Playoffs

The head-to-head thing is being overplayed in explaining what went down. The evidence from that phone call suggests that it was more about ensuring the ACC wasn't locked out than it was about "honoring" head-to-head. As we all know, past practice has not treated honoring head-to-head results as...

    2025 College Football Playoffs

Given what likely went down (i.e., collusion) I doubt Simpson being out would have kept them out of the CFP. The SEC gets paid if Bama is in, regardless of whether Simpson is healthy.
