Reading between the lines here, the school and its collective made no "formal" agreement, meaning there is no contract. The kid/family were operating under some sort of verbal agreement for $100k+, which is just plain dumb. I've said this time and again, there seems to be no contracts, deals...

What position does he play?

He's a true sophomore and would have 3 years of eligibility after this year. I wouldn't be surprised, being a Manning, if he's advised to stay in school and develop for at least two more years, if not the full three. So, it wouldn't be a "faster track" to playing time at Texas.
